Computer Support Technician

Job Title: Computer Support Technician Contract: 6 – 12 month contract with a potential for full‑time conversion Pay: $18.00 – $25.00 (based on years of experience) SCA: Eligible for SCA fringe pay on top of the hourly rate On‑Site Location: Chesapeake, VA 23320 (5 days onsite) Job Details Provides customer technical assistance and support for all users at a Tier 1 & 2 level to support a full range of IT systems and applications. Ascertains extent of problem and initiates resolution (software, hardware, connectivity, etc.). Documents help desk calls, troubleshoots user problems, and assists customers with hardware and software. Maintains business IT knowledge of the retail environment including POS terminals, credit devices, credit processors, gift‑card processors, store scales, and mobile payments for troubleshooting. Configures a wide variety of devices with diverse interfaces and device drivers in multiple operating‑system environments across multiple hardware platforms. Installs, assembles, and configures servers, computers, registers, network printers, routers, network infrastructure, Wi‑Fi equipment, and peripherals. Performs upgrades of hardware such as memory, fixed storage, and installation of network interface cards (NICs) or enhancement cards. Updates and monitors help desk tickets using an IT ticket monitoring system. Performs preventative maintenance and recommends preventative measures as warranted. Performs and maintains backup procedures for the network and POS. Provides after‑hours on‑call rotational support for HQ and CGX operations (as needed). Provides help desk support when disaster recovery/COOP plans are activated. Maintains and manages IT inventory; updates inventory schedules when receiving or shipping hardware; prepares and ships hardware to sites; performs site visits when necessary; provides written or phone assistance when onsite visits are not required. Assists CIO, IT Network, IT Applications, and IT Security staff with planning, design, research, and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of technology and recommends modifications as necessary. Assists the IT Lead Store Systems Specialist with maintaining hardware or software for the store systems; maintains current knowledge of POS technology and recommends modifications as necessary.
