Part-time Animal Control Officer

Class Summary This part‑time position has a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits. Job Description This part‑time Animal Control Officer is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the health, sanitation, and feeding of animals within the shelter. The role assists in investigations, including reported bite cases and domestic animal and livestock cruelty and abandonment, conducts rabies quarantine checks, and assists in euthanizing animals (including decapitation and specimen transportation when required). Essential Duties Assist in euthanizing animals and other functions in the euthanasia laboratory, including decapitation, preparation, and transportation of specimens to the state lab for testing. Work with local authorities and senior officers responding to citizen complaints of stray, vicious, sick, injured, or diseased animals and reported bite cases. Assist in conducting rabies quarantine checks and verify quarantine requirements are met. Assist in domestic animal and livestock cruelty and abandonment investigations. Maintain logs on diseases, medications, and treatments as required by state and federal regulations. Assist field officers with unloading, intaking, and relocating animals. Process the intake and adoption of animals, and sanitize their housing units. Administer medication to animals, and ensure they are properly fed and hydrated. Assist with the maintenance of animal medical and court records. Assist the public with lost or adoptable animals. Other Job Requirements / Information This is a safety‑sensitive position that will require a pre‑employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing. This job may require on‑call rotation and emergency after‑hours, weekends, and/or holidays. Grade 97 Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties. Pre‑exposure rabies vaccine or current titer completed within 6 months of employment. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications One year of animal control experience. Euthanasia training. Asp Baton Certificate. Defensive Driving Certificate. Basic Chemical Capture training.
