Position Overview

InSync Consulting Services is seeking an experienced Referral Specialist to support a busy healthcare referrals team. This position is responsible for processing internal and external referrals, obtaining insurance authorizations, maintaining accurate records, and communicating with medical offices and insurance companies to ensure referral requests are completed accurately and within required timeframes.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on EPIC experience, Work Queue experience, and at least one year of medical office experience processing insurance authorizations.

Key Responsibilities

• Process internal and external physician referrals accurately and efficiently.
• Obtain and verify insurance authorizations for requested services.
• Work referral-related EPIC Work Queues and follow up on outstanding requests.
• Communicate with internal and external medical offices, providers, and insurance companies.
• Answer and manage a multi-line telephone system.
• Scan, fax, upload, and distribute medical and referral documentation.
• Prepare, organize, maintain, and update referral records.
• Respond to correspondence and referral-related inquiries.
• Monitor referral requests to ensure timely processing and completion.
• Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with established procedures.
• Follow company compliance requirements, policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive healthcare information.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, insurance representatives, and other departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience working in a medical office processing insurance authorizations.
• Hands-on EPIC experience is required.
• Experience working in EPIC Work Queues is required.
• Experience processing medical referrals and authorizations.
• Strong understanding of healthcare insurance processes and referral workflows.
• Experience with scanning, faxing, document management, and electronic records.
• Ability to work effectively with multi-line phone systems.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential patient information appropriately.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
• Sufficient English-language proficiency to perform all essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a physician office, medical group, hospital, or healthcare referral department.
• Experience communicating with insurance companies regarding authorizations.
• Familiarity with healthcare terminology and referral requirements.
• Experience managing high-volume referral or authorization work queues.

Work Environment

This position is based in an office building with a cubicle-style work environment . The role requires regular computer use, telephone communication, document processing, and interaction with healthcare offices and insurance representatives.
