Safety Specialist

Responsibilities & Duties:Provides coaching and subject matter expertise to the site’s management and employees in all matters related to H&S including all potential losses. Performs as an integral member of the site’s management team and leads the site in the execution of H&S strategy.Promotes Continuous Improvement Culture and Cross Functional Teams. Assists with the oversight of the site’s H&S management system, processes and programs to ensure continuous improvement as well as regulatory and company compliance. Continually engages employees to ensure the desired H&S behaviors are being demonstrated at all levels of the organization. Assists with minimizing losses including, but not limited to, assists with managing workers’ compensation claims, property damage, business interruption, and unexpected costs. Job Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree, preferably, (but not required) in H&S related field, or equivalent experience and training, is preferred.Professional certification such as Certified Mine Safety Specialist, or Certified Safety Professional, is a plus.Minimum five years of progressive H&S experience, preferably in a mining, manufacturing or construction environment. Experience with OSHA, MSHA, or other similar regulatory agencies is required.Proficient computer skills and working with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is a must.Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities appropriately.Fluency in spoken and written English. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.Experience working with employees who are part of a unionized labor force.Must be able to support a continuous improvement environment as well as change management initiatives.Able to travel regularly to cover assigned locations. Able to develop and conduct training programs.Excellent organization, conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, challenge status quo, and initiate change.Needed Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of people management skills.Knowledge of continuous manufacturing business sector.Knowledge of Safety RegulationsTechnical creditability as it relates to industrySkillsDemonstrates strong verbal and written communication skill; effectively conveys the intended message to all levels within and outside the organization and effectively listens to concerns and issues of others.
