Assistant Director, Clinical Pathology (North America Remote)

Purpose of the Job The Assistant Director of Clinical Pathology will report directly to the Director of Clinical Pathology and oversee roughly half of the clinical pathologists. The role will involve monitoring, training, reviewing, and mentoring Pathologists in their current assignments, as well as contributing to career development. Additionally, the assistant director will dedicate 50% of the time to interpreting cytology, hematology and urine sediment and completing diagnostic reports, while the remaining 50% will be devoted to managerial and administrative duties. This position is part of the Medical Operations leadership team and will be remote in North America. Pay for this role ranges from $180,000 to $195,000 and includes an annual incentive. Responsibilities Examination and interpretation of digitized and glass slide cytology, blood films, and urine sediments. Consultation with Antech clients regarding cytology results or other laboratory findings related to blood and urinalysis reviews. Assist in the recruitment, training, and continuous development of clinical pathology professional staff. Help identify, plan, and facilitate continuing education programs for Antech clinical pathologists. Manage a team of staff clinical pathologists, responsible for performance standards in relation to quality, efficiency, and productivity. Monitor work performance of professional staff and conduct employee performance evaluations. Contribute to the design and management of studies related to clinical pathology, especially as it pertains to artificial intelligence and digital cytology. Respond to quality issues related to clinical pathology in a timely and accurate manner, liaising with QA and operations to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions. Work closely with other operational support departments such as Laboratory Operations IT, Medical Affairs, Client Services, Laboratory Coordinators, and Marketing. Commit to achieving company goals. Attend annual meetings with members of the Antech leadership team as needed. Assist the Director of Clinical Pathology and operations with implementation and improvement of digital cytology at the POC and reference lab level. Assist the Director of Clinical Pathology with innovation and development of artificial intelligence related to digital cytology. Assist the Director of Clinical Pathology and primary scheduler with clinical pathology scheduling automated development. Provide individual and team education of clinical pathologists regarding report writing, work efficiency, and diagnostic quality improvements. Maintain proficiency and develop diagnostic skills through regular continuing education. Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to clinical pathology and other lab services. Education and Experience Requirements Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent Diplomate of American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP). Required Skills and Abilities Strong diagnostic skills in cytopathology, hematology, and urinalysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work as a collaborative team member. Ability to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of quality. Flexibility to changing methodologies, technologies, and standard operating procedures. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to prioritize. Strong passion for helping people and animals. Organized with the ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment. Previous experience in a lab environment a plus. Proven ability to work effectively with clients and management. Ability to potentially work remotely with minimal supervision. Previous experience with Dragon software a plus. Fluency in English. Physical Demands Extensive sitting, phone, microscope, and computer use. Extends and reaches with hands and arms and uses hands and fingers. Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch. May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 15 lbs. Specific vision abilities required including close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing ability to effectively communicate via telephone and in person. Extended hours may be needed. Occasional travel for conferences, meetings, and training.
