Mandatory Contract & Submission Requirements Licensure: Must hold an active, full, and unrestricted Alaska RN License at the time of submission . Time Off Policy: Zero Requested Time Off (RTO) granted during the first 13-week contract. Shift & Float Flexibility: Must be willing/able to work both Day and Night shifts. Must float between Med/Surg, Emergency Department (ED), and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as required. Immunization: Flu vaccine required. Onboarding Timeline: Start date will be no earlier than 6 weeks after fingerprint cards are received at SEARHC in Juneau. Candidates must mail fingerprint cards within 2–3 days of acceptance to avoid onboarding delays. Position Overview The Clinical Float Nurse coordinates and delivers comprehensive nursing care across the lifespan (pediatric through geriatric), operating independently across Med/Surg, ED, and ICU units. Upholding SEARHC's Seven Standards of Excellence, this role requires adaptable clinical judgment, expertise in acute/critical care procedures, and the ability to act calmly and decisively in emergency situations. Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities Multi-Unit Clinical Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care across Med/Surg, ED, and ICU environments based on patient acuity and multi-system conditions. Emergency Intervention: Recognize signs of acute deterioration and promptly initiate life‑saving interventions. Assist with complex procedures (e.g., intubation, arterial line setup, thoracentesis, lavage, chest tube setup). Supervision & Leadership: Delegate and supervise care provided by CNAs and Patient Care Techs. Serve as Contact RN leading assigned healthcare team members during assigned shifts. Patient & Family Engagement: Provide clear education regarding disease processes, treatments, and post‑discharge plans while providing psychosocial support to reduce stress. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Transcribe and execute provider orders accurately, coordinate care activities with multidisciplinary teams, and participate in unit quality initiatives. Qualifications & Experience Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required for Alaska RN licensure. High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience: Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience preferred; prior experience in Med/Surg, ED, or ICU specialty areas highly preferred. Licensure: Active, unrestricted Alaska RN license (required at submission). Required Certifications at Hire: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required upon hire. (TNCC/ATCN and NRP may be required based on unit assignment within 6 months). Essential Knowledge & Skills Technical Proficiency: Hands‑on expertise in operating critical equipment, including cardiac monitors, defibrillators, ventilators, EKG machines, and specialized IV access/monitoring lines. Pharmacology: In‑depth knowledge of general and specialty medications, dosage calculations, side effects, and adverse reaction management.
