Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Indianapolis, IN – Monday to Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with rotational weekends. Pay range: $26.97+ per hour with potential shift differential (10% for second shift and 15% for third shift) and an annual performance bonus. Responsibilities Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgment in qualified specialties. Demonstrate proficiency in all testing areas and troubleshoot instruments and procedures. Provide support in quality control, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects. Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs ensuring quality control requirements are met. Actively support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time for results, including STATS or critical results to clients. Ensure reagents and test kits have proper receive, expiration, and opened dates. Perform QC analysis, make quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition. Inform supervisors of all problems associated with test procedures. Report actual or potential deviations from standard procedures and cooperate with investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel. Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel when applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections when needed. Assume lead responsibilities in absence of a supervisor when qualified and delegated. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Work Experience One year full‑time experience or training in high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Work Experience Minimum three years of clinical experience with most recent year in present department. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting and carrying: 1‑10 lb frequently; 11‑25 lb occasionally; 36‑50 lb seldom; over 50 lb without assistance. Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods. Frequent walking/standing. Use of manual and automated pipettes and instruments, demanding manual dexterity. Knowledge Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty. Knowledge of organizational and departmental policies and procedures. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or Associate’s in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred). Certified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (preferred). Foreign educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S.‑educated candidates must provide original transcript. Other state‑specific requirements may apply. Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry (Preferred). Licenses and Certifications ASCP Certification (Preferred).
