Anesthesia Technician, Anesthesiology (Days)

Position Overview Position: Anesthesia Technician – Anesthesiology Department. Location: Boston, MA. Schedule: 40 hours per week, 10:00am – 6:30pm. Position Summary Under general supervision, assists the anesthesiologist in equipment set‑up and preparation for surgical procedures and performs preventive maintenance on medical equipment. Provides assistance with patient preparation and additional support as needed during the procedure. Responsibilities Assist anesthesia floor leaders with various resources as requested. Demonstrate ability to organize time, evidenced by completion of work assignments within shift. Room preparation at beginning of day and turnover: dispose of dirty items, clean surfaces and equipment per infection‑control guidelines (anesthesia machine, carts, monitoring equipment, pumps, fluid warmers, Bair Huggers). Set up necessary equipment (anesthesia machines, airway devices, fluid warming, pressure infusers, ultrasounds, monitoring equipment, suction canisters and tubing). Place anesthesia breathing circuit on the machine and perform leak test. Restock anesthesia carts following approved inventory checklist. Terminal cleaning at end of day: dispose of remaining items, clean surfaces, restock carts and place unopened equipment (circuits, masks, Yankauer tips, laryngoscope handles and batteries, MAC3&4 and Miller2&3 blades). Perform occasional on‑call duty one weekend every seven weeks. Requirements Education: High‑school diploma or state high‑school equivalency (GED). Knowledge and Skills: Stand and walk for extended periods while operating equipment, arranging instrument trays and carts, and performing inventory and dispensing supplies. Push/pull carts of instruments and/or equipment weighing up to 200pounds. Work with patients potentially having infectious disease and handle contaminated medical/surgical instruments, hazardous materials, disinfectants, gases and steam while observing Universal Precautions (protective clothing, gloves, goggles). Effective verbal and written communication to collaborate with clinical personnel, resolve problems and identify and label supplies for inventory.
