Patient Care Tech II - CORE

Job Description Summary The Patient Care Technician (PCT) reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PCT performs multi‑skilled activities to support a decentralized, patient‑centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. A PCT is responsible for measuring and documenting vital signs, identifying patient concerns and reporting them to colleagues, and moving, turning or relocating patients as required for their comfort and medical needs. An effective PCT should have patience, empathy, intuition, good communication, and organizational skills to interact with the Manager, Charge Nurse, and other Care Team members. Responsibilities Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized Assist patients with everyday needs (personal hygiene, restroom, grooming, etc.) Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse, etc.), EKG signals, and patient condition Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments Ensure rooms have adequate patient care supplies and clean linen Assist patients with particular issues or needs Provide appropriate emotional support Place patient on cardiac monitor Empty drains, ostomies, and Foley bags Perform blood sugar checks Assist with other duties assigned by the department leader Minimum Training and Education A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. At least one year of patient care work experience in a health care facility or a Certified Nursing Assistant qualification is preferred. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire. After hire, the PCT must maintain a current BLS certification, either an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or an AHA‑recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, and, infrequently, working outside in temperature extremes. Ability to work from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, and from kneeling positions. Ability to bend, twist at the waist, squat, and perform pinching operations. Ability to perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reach overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs., lift/lower 50 lbs. from floor, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs., exert up to 50 lbs. of force. Maintain vision (20/40), hearing acuity, fine motor control, and ability to handle stressful situations. Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and in a latex‑safe environment.
