Structural Designer III - Power Generation (400 MW Simple Cycle / EPC)

Job DescriptionStructural Designer III (Power Generation / Industrial Projects) Contract – Birmingham, AL (anticipated 9–12 months with strong potential for extension). Very competitive pay, time-and-a-half for OT, Mob/Demob, and strong per diem. Join a growing engineering team supporting large-scale power generation and infrastructure projects, including gas turbines, renewables, BESS, substations, and transmission systems. You’ll contribute to the development of construction-ready structural designs that go directly into the field. Requirements: Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field5+ years of structural design/drafting experience (typical for this level)Experience in industrial, energy, or infrastructure projectsFamiliarity with EPC environments or multidisciplinary project teamsStrong understanding of structural steel and concrete detailingProficiency with: AutoCAD (required)Revit, Navisworks, or similar 3D tools (preferred)Ability to interpret vendor equipment drawings and integrate into structural layouts Responsibilities: Develop construction drawings and structural deliverables for steel and concrete systemsInterpret project scope, specifications, and design criteriaReview and incorporate vendor and interdisciplinary layouts into structural designsSupport material take-offs (MTOs), cost estimates, and preliminary studiesPerform field investigations to verify site conditions, clearances, and constructibilityCoordinate with civil, mechanical, and electrical teams for integrated designReview and check drawings from other designers and vendors for accuracy and complianceSupport construction activities, including site visits and field issue resolutionAssist with scheduling and task planning to meet project deadlinesMentor junior designers and support team development Skills & Competencies: Strong understanding of structural materials, detailing, and construction practicesExperience producing accurate, constructible designs for industrial applicationsFamiliarity with EPC workflows and fast-paced project environmentsAbility to work across multidisciplinary teams and virtual environmentsStrong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlinesProficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Why This Role Stands Out: Work on real power infrastructure projects (not just drafting work)Exposure to gas turbines, substations, renewables, and BESSHigh-impact role where your designs go directly into constructionGrowing team with opportunities to mentor and expand responsibilitiesStrong earning potential with OT + per diem Additional Info: Occasional travel for field verification and construction support Johnson Service Group (JSG) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
