Senior Accountant

About the Role: As Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance across the organisation. You will be a key contributor to month-end and year-end close, supporting leadership with timely insights and helping to strengthen controls and processes in a largely undocumented environment. Key Responsibilities: Manage full-cycle general ledger accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals. Lead month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements. Prepare and review financial reports, management accounts, and variance analyses for senior leadership. Maintain and improve accounting controls, identifying gaps and implementing practical solutions. Oversee account reconciliations for key balance sheet and income statement accounts. Support regulatory and compliance reporting specific to the financial services sector. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to clarify financial data and resolve accounting issues. Assist in documenting and standardising accounting processes and procedures as needed. Key Requirements: Significant experience as an accountant within financial services, ideally banking or credit unions. Proven ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and meet strict deadlines. Strong technical accounting skills, including GAAP knowledge and complex reconciliations. Demonstrated experience managing month-end close and producing accurate financial statements. Comfortable operating in environments with limited existing documentation and structure. High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all financial work. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide clear insights. Proficient in accounting software and Excel for reporting and analysis. Desirable Skills: Experience with core banking or credit union accounting systems. Background in regulatory reporting within the financial services sector. Experience improving or implementing accounting processes and internal controls. Exposure to audit preparation and liaison with external auditors. Familiarity with multi-entity or complex organisational structures. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CA) preferred but not mandatory.
