Description Title: Youth Development Professional - High School Future Ready Academic Coach Organization: Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro Location: Teen Clubhouse - San Leandro, CA Department: Programming Reports to: Academic Success & Career Readiness Coordinator Direct Reports: None Exempt Status: Non-Exempt Position Type: Part-Time (20-25 hrs/week) Compensation: $20-25/hour Note: This role follows the school-year calendar and does not include hours during academic breaks. Summer Camp work may be available based on program needs and availability. Position Overview: The Youth Development Professional (YDP) - High School Future Ready Academic Coach empowers teens to achieve academic success, graduate on time, and prepare for college, careers, and life beyond high school. Through a combination of academic coaching, tutoring support, and Future Ready programming, this role directly supports Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro's mission to inspire and enable all young people to reach their full potential. This position is uniquely responsible for integrating youth development, academic intervention, and post-secondary readiness strategies to drive measurable student outcomes and long-term success. This role is also responsible for facilitating Power Hour sessions throughout the week and maintaining academic data and tracking systems in support of Future Ready programming. What that looks like in this role: Centers every decision and interaction on what will best support each teen's academic success, well-being, and future goals, creating an inclusive environment where every student feels valued, heard, and empowered to succeed. Essential Functions: Academic Support & Post-Secondary Pathways Provide daily homework assistance, tutoring, and academic coaching. Support Future Ready programming, including GPA check-ins, A-G awareness, financial aid education, and exploration of post-secondary pathways such as four-year universities, community colleges, and trade programs. Monitor student academic progress in collaboration with the Academic Success & Career Readiness Coordinator and program partners. Communicate with families regarding academic expectations, student progress, and areas of concern. Teen Engagement, Supervision & Safety Build positive, trusting relationships with teens and create a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes positive engagement. Maintain appropriate supervision and a structured, respectful academic environment aligned with organizational standards and Clubhouse rules. Use positive behavior-management and trauma-informed practices. Model positive behavior and provide appropriate behavioural guidance. Follow all organizational health, safety, security, and supervision standards and procedures. Program Development & Facilitation Independently facilitate Power Hour sessions Monday through Thursday between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., serving as the lead facilitator for the space. Assist with planning and facilitating teen-appropriate academic workshops, post-secondary sessions, and other activities that foster personal growth, educational achievement, and character development. Co-facilitate structured academic and post-secondary readiness content, including leading grade-specific sessions at group events. Collaborate with Program Managers and Coordinators to develop and deliver effective programming. Data, Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate student records and retrieve academic and attendance data from Salesforce, or another designated platform, and the milestone tracker. Track and document attendance, Power Hour participation, session participation, notable academic progress, and areas of concern. Support monthly data-reporting requirements for program monitoring and tracking. Maintain accurate information using spreadsheet-based tracking systems and other designated tools. Collaboration & Operational Support Collaborate and communicate effectively with Teen Center staff, Program Managers, Coordinators, tutors, mentors, partners, and other colleagues to achieve program goals, share best practices, and improve program effectiveness. Support program setup, transitions, special events, and the maintenance of clean and organized learning spaces. Travel to other sites as needed to meet ratio requirements and provide temporary program support. Assist with additional site needs and operational responsibilities necessary to support program success. Participate in required trainings and staff meetings. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the program and organization. Requirements Required: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in youth development, including planning and supervising activities for teens. Comfortable with basic data entry and spreadsheet-based tracking systems. Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin is a plus. Reliable and consistent availability Monday through Friday is required, with occasional Saturday availability for one-time events. AA degree or BA degree (minimum of 60 units). Preference in education or youth related fields. CPR/First Aid certification required. Ability to work the entire school year, adhering to the scheduled hours. Genuine belief in the mission of BGCSL and the responsibility that comes with serving youth and the community. Preferred: Multi-conversational language skills a HUGE plus (Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tagalog). Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications and comfortable with utilizing technology in program delivery. Ability to handle stress, analyze problems, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods, and perform routine math calculations. High emotional intelligence (EQ) can "read the room" and gain the trust and confidence of a diverse group of teens. Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Extremely patient and able to work under pressure or emotionally volatile situations. Work Environment: This position will work primarily in a Clubhouse environment at the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro. This role may [occasionally] require flexibility to accommodate organizational events or deadlines. Key aspects of the work environment include: Frequently required to stand. Rarely required to walk. Frequently required to sit. Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity. Rarely required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl. Continually required to talk or hear. Rarely exposure to outside weather conditions (visiting a site) Occasionally exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials (Communicable diseases in an office environment including COVID-19, common cold, and flu viruses. Negative TB screen required). While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 20 pounds.
