Job Title: EH&S Manager Job Description

The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Program Manager will oversee the planning, administration, and management of safety, health, and fire safety programs within the hospital. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws, as well as standards set by The Joint Commission (TJC). The manager will develop and implement environmental management programs and manage interactions with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

• Advise management and staff on safety protocols to ensure regulatory compliance.

• Investigate, research, and recommend best practices for health and safety management.

• Conduct environmental safety rounding, staff training, and fire drills.

• Conduct life safety inspections for construction projects.

• Develop safety manual policies and procedures.

• Manage occupational safety and health investigations and inspections.

• Conduct TJC, Fire/Life Safety regulatory compliance audits.

• Develop and conduct mandated Environment of Care (EOC) audits.

• Analyze and report data to management and various committees.

• Identify and improve environmental health and safety processes.

• Develop and present annual budgetary requirements.

• Manage the Laser safety program.

• Prepare and review reports to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.

• Serve as a technical/regulatory resource and interpret analytical data.

• Negotiate compliance issues with regulatory agencies.

• Develop and administer budgets, schedules, and performance requirements.

• Work with OCIP Safety Manager to meet regulatory compliance standards.

• On-call availability during non-standard hours to respond to emergencies.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline from an accredited college or university.

• Five years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

• Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.

• Ability to manage complex projects and resources.

• Ability to mediate and resolve complex problems and issues.

• Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulatory requirements.

• Knowledge of TJC-EOC Standards and Auditing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Driver’s License – Any US State preferred.

• Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazmat Certification preferred.

• OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Certification preferred.

• Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist preferred.

• RCRA Hazardous Waste Training preferred.

• OSHA Hazwoper preferred.

• OSHA30 - 30-hour Construction Training preferred.

Work Environment

The position is based in a healthcare environment but requires office-based work offsite, approximately five miles from the hospital. The role involves project management, resource management, and facilities systems. The team size ranges from 25-35 employees, with travel to hospitals and clinics as needed. Dress code is business formal with a start time between 6:30am and 7:30am. The position requires in-office presence and involves interaction with an executive director and five directors from different business units.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Menlo Park, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58.00 - $80.34/hr.
