The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Lead Reprographics Specialist. Required Work Experience Three to five years of increasingly responsible workexperience in printing, bindery, and mailing. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, departmental rules, regulations, procedures and functions, including policies and regulations set by the Senate Rules Committee and the Senate Committee on Ethics. Knowledge of equipment, computers and relevant software/Web applications, and spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge of modern printing and reprographics principles and practices. Knowledge of paper, inks, and other supplies used in printing production. Skill in safely setting up and operating an array of equipment within assigned areas. Ability to assign, inspect and coordinate work in an efficient manner. Ability to meet established quality control standards. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to detect needed repairs and take appropriate action. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers. Ability to communicate effectively. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of the practical application of technologies used in the printing industry to include the principles, techniques, procedures, and knowledge of print production processes including offset and digital equipment for production of printed materials. Knowledge of offset printing presses such as four-color offset presses, one color offset presses, Inkjet Printing Press, and digital printing presses to create a wide range of print material and media. Knowledge of industrial bindery equipment such as stitchers, paper cutters, folders, coil binding and other book binding equipment, paper drill and corner rounding equipment, foil stamping and embossing presses. Experience with supervising, training, evaluating and discipline of staff members. Ability to delegate assignments and manage projects in a timely manner. Experience in writing and conducting employee performance evaluations and providing positive and constructive feedback. Operates and troubleshoots Printing and Bindery equipment. Conducts regular and special maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal machine performance based on equipment specifications. Ensures the completion of all printing requests. Performs essential quality control checks of materials and ensures that all work conforms to established standards and applicable specifications while establishing priorities as necessary. Working Conditions Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during a lapse, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. Work requires frequent physical effort such as walking, sitting, bending, standing, and safely lifting objects up to 50 pounds. Working in confined spaces (bending and crawling). Ability to sit or stand at a desk while operating a computer. Hazards include moving machinery, exposure to chemicals, such as inks and solvents, paper dust and excessive noise.
