Growing together.The Associate Director - Capital Finance serves as a key finance leader and strategic advisor supporting the Optum Rx Capital Portfolio, representing approximately $425M in annual capital investment. This role is responsible for end-to-end financial stewardship of the portfolio, including capital planning, forecasting, performance management, governance, benefits tracking, executive reporting, and investment decision support.As a key finance partner for the Optum Rx capital portfolio, the Associate Director leads portfolio consolidation and executive narrative development across quarterly forecasts, annual planning, and long-range planning processes. This role partners closely with business leaders, portfolio managers, program teams, and enterprise finance stakeholders to ensure investment decisions align with strategic priorities, financial commitments, and enterprise governance requirements.The Associate Director provides leadership over capital governance processes, oversees data quality and financial integrity within Capital Demand Management (CDM), and drives transparency into portfolio performance, benefits realization, risks, and opportunities.Primary Responsibilities:Portfolio Financial Leadership & Strategic PlanningLead financial oversight of the Optum Rx capital portfolio, providing strategic guidance on investment decisions, portfolio prioritization, and resource allocationOwn portfolio consolidation, capital committee reporting, and development of executive-level narratives for quarterly forecasts, annual operating plans, and long-range planning cyclesPartner with senior business and technology leaders to evaluate investment strategies and ensure alignment with organizational objectivesSynthesize complex financial and operational information into actionable insights and recommendations for executive leadershipForecasting, Planning & Performance ManagementLead quarterly forecast processes, annual budget development, and long-range capital planning activities across the Optum Rx portfolioDrive portfolio-level forecasting accuracy, financial accountability, and variance managementIdentify key financial risks and opportunities and develop mitigation strategies in partnership with business stakeholdersDeliver timely and accurate performance reporting, trend analysis, and recommendations to senior leadershipCapital Data Governance & Financial IntegrityProvide oversight of portfolio financial data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency across reporting platforms and governance processesServe as the primary finance owner for CDM data quality and portfolio reporting integrityPartner with program teams to review, validate, and update project financials, investment assumptions, timelines, and benefit projectionsEstablish controls and governance processes that improve transparency, audit readiness, and decision-making qualityPortfolio Manager Enablement & Cross-Functional LeadershipServe as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to portfolio managers and program teams on capital finance policies, reporting requirements, and governance expectationsLead training and education efforts to improve financial acumen, reporting consistency, and forecasting discipline across the capital portfolioInfluence decision-making across Finance, Technology, Operations, and Business teams through solid partnership and executive communicationMentor team members and promote best practices in capital planning, analysis, and investment managementProcess Improvement & Operational ExcellenceDrive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance capital planning, forecasting, reporting, and governance processesIdentify opportunities to automate reporting, improve analytics, and streamline financial workflowsChampion adoption of standardized tools, or related field5+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, capital finance, investment management, accounting, or related finance functionsExperience presenting financial results, recommendations, and investment strategies to senior leadershipDemonstrated experience leading complex financial planning, forecasting, and portfolio management processesDemonstrated solid business acumen with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive decision-makingDemonstrated advanced analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving capabilitiesProven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environmentPreferred Qualifications:Experience supporting large-scale capital portfolios, technology investments, or enterprise transformation programsExperience leading enterprise planning processes, including annual budgets and long-range plansExperience leading teams, mentoring colleagues, or managing cross-functional initiativesKnowledge of capital governance frameworks, business case development, and benefits realization methodologiesFamiliarity with capital portfolio management and reporting tools, including CDM and related financial
