Veterinarian, Community Medicine
$148k - $156kASPCA
Veterinarian Position
Help animals in need! Our highly skilled veterinarians, along with support from licensed technicians and assistants, provide essential services to the pets and rescue animals that need us the most. CM's team of medical professionals sees over 100,000 animals every year—and there are many more that need our help. No worrying about the cost of services to your clients, minimal paperwork, no on-call or overnight shifts, and no after-hours emergencies. You get to focus on your patients - and have a life! The ASPCA will support you professionally through mentorship and training in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter. If you have limited experience with HQHVSN and have always wanted to become a better, more efficient surgeon, this is your opportunity to learn from the pros.
Compensation
The target hiring range for this role is $148,000 - $156,000.
Benefits
- Affordable health coverage, including medical, employer-paid dental, and optional vision coverage as well as employer-paid life and long-term disability insurance.
- Flexible time off that includes vacation time, sick and bereavement time, paid parental leave, company paid holidays, and paid personal time off that allows you even more flexibility to observe the days that mean the most to you.
- Competitive financial incentives and retirement savings including veterinary state license fee reimbursement and a 401(k) plan with generous employer contributions — we match dollar for dollar up to 4% and provide an additional 4% contribution toward your future each year.
- Robust professional development opportunities including structured mentorship from experienced veterinarians - we are one of the largest and most impactful animal welfare organizations in the world, so you will always have a strong team to lean on and cheer you on. We also provide three paid continuing education days and a $1500 CE stipend to keep your skills sharp.
Work Schedule and Location
This is typically an 8-hour schedule with flexibility to work occasionally beyond the scheduled work day. We have on-site positions that are primarily based at the Brooklyn Community Veterinary Clinic, Bronx Community Veterinary Clinic, or ASPCA Mobile Clinics throughout the Greater New York City Area, and this position requires occasional flexibility in reporting location. Schedules are subject to change at the sole discretion of the ASPCA.
Responsibilities
Responsibility buckets are listed in general order of importance, and include, but are not limited to:

- Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and for our clients by using low-stress handling techniques
- Triage and refer cases that do not fall within CM's parameters of care as appropriate

- Communicate with all clients in a non-judgement, effective and professional manner; discuss physical examination and test results to allow pet owners to make informed decisions about their pet's care

- Provide discharge instructions for patients and oversee the dispensing of medications
- Document exam findings, test results and treatment recommendations according to ASPCA guidelines
- Collaborate and foster good communication with ASPCA colleagues
