The position is expected to be in schools 80% of the time, with occasional visits to the Partnership office in Downtown LA. School sites are based in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts. This is a full‑time, year‑round position.

ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP FOR LOS ANGELES SCHOOLS

Launched in 2007, the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools’ mission is to transform schools to revolutionize school systems, empowering all students with a high‑quality education. The Partnership is a non‑profit, in‑district partner to LA Unified, not a charter network. As an independent nonprofit organization, the Partnership serves 12,200 students across 20 LA Unified schools in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts. The Partnership works within the LA Unified School District context, which includes honoring all collective bargaining agreements for its teachers and school staff.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools is seeking a highly motivated College & Career Success Advisor. The Advisor has a strong interest and commitment to building and sustaining a K‑12 college‑going culture. The Advisor ensures all students from diverse backgrounds achieve success through student agency, post‑secondary pathways, and lifelong readiness. The Advisor will support and guide students in matriculating to a 4‑year or 2‑year college and/or pursuing a career pathway of their choice, while ensuring they are prepared for success upon arrival. The College and Career Success Advisor will collaborate and support two specific schools, including school staff, students, and families, while also building tools and resources for use across the Partnership network. The Advisor is part of the College & Career Success team and reports directly to the Manager of College & Career Success. The position is grant‑funded through summer 2029 with the possibility of extending beyond that date. The College & Career Success Advisor has a direct impact on the 2030 strategic plan through supporting students who will thrive in schools that cultivate joy and build their confidence, knowledge, and skills that open pathways to sustained personal and professional success. The Partnership is committed to continuously building an anti‑racist culture that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in classrooms and our home office. The College & Career Success Advisor will be someone who is committed to implementing these values in creative ways when executing day‑to‑day tasks and responsibilities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to: Student Advising & Post‑Secondary Success Support: Provide one‑on‑one and small group advisement to students from two high schools on post‑secondary college and career pathways that honor scholars’ interests, family circumstances, and life goals. Support seniors and their families with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Develop and deliver presentations and workshops to students on post‑secondary pathways and planning, including systems of higher education, CTE and career pathways, financial literacy and college affordability, and other related topics. Promote and support student applications to internships, scholarships, and other work‑based learning opportunities, including programs offered through the Partnership. Support other College and Career team initiatives and events, as necessary. Support the development of college and career readiness resources and lesson plans for use across Partnership school sites. Support the coordination of student experiences, including college and career fairs, mock interviews, and field trips. Collaborate with college counselors, administrators, and college and career access partners in service of honoring students’ interests and goals. Attend team meetings and specified activities, and collaborate with colleagues in support of the Partnership’s organizational vision. Use data to make informed decisions, including collecting, interpreting, action planning, and progress monitoring. Actively engage in professional development and learning opportunities. Family Engagement for Post‑Secondary Planning & College Affordability: Partner with families to inform and empower them in supporting their child’s postsecondary planning. Directly engage with senior students’ families to increase their awareness of college and career pathways and opportunities.

POSITION FIRST‑YEAR PRIORITIES

Integration with school communities as a trusted and reliable source for post‑secondary initiatives, including but not limited to school college teams and career pathway departments. A 5% increase in active seniors who intend to continue their education at either a four‑ or two‑year college. A 5% increase in active seniors who intend to continue their education through other post‑secondary pathways (e.g., trade‑school programs, the military).

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates who commit to a 1‑year minimum in the role are highly preferred. 1‑3 years of experience working in an educational setting with first‑generation students of color. Experience coaching, advising, and advocating for students, especially students of color. Experience working with diverse cohorts or caseloads of students is preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and comfort with presenting to small and large groups, including students, families, staff, and community partners. Ability to creatively solve challenges and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Previous experience with analyzing data and using it to inform decision‑making. Familiarity with FAFSA, CADAA and financial aid processes is highly preferred. Knowledge of CSU, UC, CA Community College, and Common applications, preferred. Ability to travel between school sites and Partnership home office. Spanish language fluency (spoken and written), preferred. Working understanding of K‑12 public education sector and postsecondary matriculation preferred. A deep belief in the power of our communities, as well as the Partnership’s mission, approach, and core values. A commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment for all team members. A willingness to learn, grow, and model the Partnership competencies: Anti‑racism, root cause analysis, long‑term thinking, teaming and collaboration, psychological safety, and learning and growth.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting salary range is $68,838–$70,904. The Partnership’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion extends to our compensation practices. Our goal is to ensure that salaries are fair for all staff members who hold many intersectional identities, and we set salaries based on a robust compensation model grounded in consistency and transparency. The exact salary for this position is set through the Partnership’s compensation policy and is dependent on the candidate’s relevant skills, experiences, and organizational tenure. In support of our vision for pay equity, candidate salaries are determined by a formula and we do not negotiate. The Partnership also offers a robust benefits package including employer‑paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents; a 403(b) retirement program with employee match and vesting; parental and sabbatical leaves; a professional development allowance; and generous paid time off.
