About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Acute Care Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active Illinois RN licensure or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: - Understanding of drug-free workplace policies, including the requirement to produce a negative drug screen. - Ability to titrate Heparin drips. Description: The acute care unit consists of 29 beds. Typical patient census is between 22 to 26, with a target of 25. Rooms are a mix of private and semi-private. Patient to nurse ratios are 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night. Common diagnoses include GI bleeds, Sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, and comfort measures. Patients may return post-surgery or procedure. Charge nurses have a goal of being free of assignments, with 24-hour coverage available. There are patient care techs with a ratio of 1:10. Oxygen requirements can be up to 6L via nasal cannula, and stable BiPAP/CPAP are managed at night or as needed. Telemetry monitoring is provided remotely, with unit equipment primarily being Phillips. Shifts are 12 hours long from 7 am to 7 pm and 7 pm to 7 am. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Holidays are rotated among the staff. Travel RNs may float to similar units, but will not take care of ICU or chemotherapy patients. Nurses provide their own scrub attire and may wear any color, except for pediatric scrubs. RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and can utilize unit resources if unsuccessful. Inpatient phlebotomy teams are available for blood draws.
