Clinical Nurse Coordinator PreOp Phase II

Methodist Hospital, part of SA Health and a leading healthcare provider in San Antonio, is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator for our PreOp Phase II area within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will serve as a key clinical resource and front-line leader, coordinating high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for patients preparing for surgery and recovering in Phase II prior to discharge. You will oversee daily clinical operations, including patient flow, staff assignments, and adherence to evidence-based perioperative standards, while supporting the nursing team in delivering safe, compassionate, and efficient care. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator PreOp Phase II will perform comprehensive preoperative and post-anesthesia assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications and IV therapies, monitor vital signs and patient responses, and provide thorough patient and family education regarding procedures, discharge instructions, and follow-up care. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, PACU staff, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless transitions of care, timely case starts, and optimal patient outcomes. As a clinical leader, you will mentor and coach nursing staff, support orientation and ongoing competency development, and promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability consistent with Methodist Hospital’s supportive and inclusive values. You will assist with staffing coordination, participate in performance improvement initiatives, contribute to policy and protocol development, and help identify and implement best practices for PreOp and Phase II workflows. You will also help monitor quality metrics, patient satisfaction scores, and regulatory compliance, and actively engage in process improvement projects to enhance efficiency and patient experience. This position requires strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and excellent communication skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment and respond effectively to changes in patient condition. The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Nurse with prior perioperative, PreOp, PACU, SDS, or ambulatory surgery experience, who is comfortable taking on a leadership role at the bedside.
