About the Role

We’re looking for a mechanically minded Machine Tool Designer who enjoys building things, solving problems, and figuring out how machines work. You’ll design custom automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, and mechanical systems while working closely with mechanical engineers, toolmakers, machinists, fabricators, and assemblers. This is an opportunity to contribute to interesting projects for customers throughout the MidWest and see your designs take shape on the shop floor.

Glaze Tool & Engineering is a custom machine builder and job shop specializing in automation, tooling, and advanced manufacturing solutions. Our engineers work hands-on across the full project lifecycle—from concept and design through fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation.

• Design custom automation machinery, tooling, fixtures, and mechanical systems.
• Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Support projects from initial concept through installation.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and manufacturing issues.
• Apply GD&T and sound engineering principles.
• Work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems and interpret related schematics.
• Assist with machine testing, debugging, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with shop personnel to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related technical field.
• Experience designing custom automation machinery or equipment.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills

• GD&T.
• Finite element analysis (FEA).
• Robotics and automation.
• Custom tooling and fixture design.
• Knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
