About the Position

Job Title: PET/CT Technologist Profession: Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 9 months Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Dual License in Nuclear and CT Certifications: Must be registered with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Must-Have: - Must be able to start peripheral IV access lines. - Must be able to perform injection procedures, including manual unit doses and dose delivery systems. - Operating knowledge of personal computers, camera and processing workstations, medical charting systems, PACS, and RIS. - Capable of a flexible work schedule, with the possibility of working more than 8-hour days as the schedule requires. - Must be able to interact with personnel in a professional and ethical manner. - Must be able to produce high-quality special imaging with little supervision. - Must be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment, including training personnel. - Must be flexible, reliable, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative. - Ability to demonstrate competency in all relevant areas. Description: Under the general direction of the Director of PET and with the clinical supervision of the reading physician, the technologist performs PET imaging on patients of all ages for the purpose of assisting in the diagnosis of patient illness. The technologist complies with the laws, regulations, and policies governing the practice of nuclear medicine. They ensure policies related to radiation safety are followed, especially in areas where radioactive material is stored or used. The technologist performs all ordered examinations of appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with established standards and protocols. They must review procedure requests, protocol sheets, patient medical information, and screening information to ensure accuracy in the Radiology Department Final Checks process. It is important to ensure that any pre-procedural preparation is completed, including fasting, diet, hydration, glucose levels, voiding, and the suspension of interfering medications. Maintaining and posting current permits to practice is essential. The technologist reviews the procedure requisition and patient screening form and explains the procedure to the patient and/or family, obtaining assistance from a designated interpreter when necessary. They exercise good judgment in assessing and responding to patient needs before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures. Under the guidance and approval of a radiologist, the technologist administers contrast agents and/or radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with regulatory agencies and established standards. They perform equipment quality checks and troubleshoot problems, placing service calls and notifying relevant staff members of issues. Documenting all radiopharmaceutical doses in required locations is crucial, along with providing patients with a dose exposure card. Maintaining a clean and uncluttered environment is a key responsibility. The technologist transfers and archives studies to relevant systems and provides images to the reading room according to established protocols. Assisting in notifying staff about materials needed and completing necessary administrative tasks is part of the role. The technologist follows quality assurance and HIPAA guidelines to maintain patient confidentiality. Reporting to the assigned PET area promptly at the start of the shift is essential. They perform the required QA and documentation, including wipes and survey measurements in compliance with regulatory agencies. Ensuring all radio pharmacy delivery cases are refilled with appropriate shielding and properly positioned for safety is required. The technologist follows protocol guidelines, waiting the appropriate time after administering PET radiopharmaceuticals before imaging procedures and acquiring additional views as needed. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
