Job Title: Director of Engineering - Managed File TransferLocation: Remote (HQ in San Francisco)Position OverviewWe are seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Engineering to lead the Managed File Transfer engineering organization. This role is responsible for defining technical vision and delivery for secure, high availability file transfer products and services used by critical infrastructure and enterprise customers. The Director will drive architecture, SDLC best practices, cloud-native modernization, CI/CD, and secure engineering while scaling teams that build .NET/C# and AI-powered solutions for data movement and protection.Key ResponsibilitiesSet technical strategy and roadmap for Managed File Transfer products, aligning engineering goals with business priorities and customer needs.Lead, mentor, and grow multiple engineering teams including backend, cloud, SRE, QA, and security-focused engineers working on .NET/C# and cloud-native platforms.Own architecture and design for high-availability, secure file transfer systems (SFTP, AS2, FTP/S, MQ, APIs), ensuring scalability for critical infrastructure workloads.Drive full SDLC maturity: feature lifecycle, release planning, code quality, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and observability to achieve reliable, repeatable delivery.Champion cloud-native modernization using containers, Kubernetes, serverless patterns, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/ARM) on public clouds (AWS/Azure/GCP).Partner with Product, Security, Compliance, and Customer Success to define secure-by-design approaches for data security, encryption, key management, and regulatory compliance (SOC2, NIST, PCI, HIPAA as applicable).Own incident response readiness and production reliability practices (SLOs/SLIs), postmortems, and continuous improvement for critical customer environments.Introduce and scale AI-enabled capabilities (e.g., intelligent routing, anomaly detection, metadata extraction) while ensuring model governance and data privacy.Manage hiring, budgeting, resource planning, and vendor/partner relationships to meet roadmap commitments and SLAs.Promote engineering best practices: code reviews, architectural principles, performance engineering, and mentorship programs to raise team effectiveness.Qualifications10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in senior engineering leadership or director roles overseeing multiple teams.Proven experience building and operating Managed File Transfer or secure data movement products, protocols, and integrations (SFTP, AS2, FTPS, MQ, APIs).Strong hands-on background in SDLC, modern CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps), automated testing, and release engineering.Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, containers, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation) on AWS/Azure/GCP.Expertise in .NET and C# development and modernizing legacy .NET applications to .NET Core/.NET 5+; familiarity with microservices patterns and APIs.Solid knowledge of data security practices: encryption at rest/in transit, key management, secrets management, identity and access controls, and secure coding.Experience with critical infrastructure and enterprise environments, including compliance frameworks (SOC2, NIST, PCI, HIPAA) and high-availability operations.Experience introducing AI/ML features into production systems (anomaly detection, NLP, recommendation, automation) and working with data science teams on model deployment and governance.Proven ability to hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent and to communicate effectively with executives, customers, and cross-functional teams.Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience; relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, PMP, Azure/AWS Architect) are a plus.#EnghpBenefitsVacation/PTOMedicalDentalVision401kBonusRelocationTelecommute
