Medical Director, Keck Family Medicine Practice, Keck School of Medicine of USCThe Department of Family Medicine (DFM) at the Keck School of Medicine of USC seeks a full-time physician to serve as Medical Director of the Keck Family Medicine Practice. The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the Department's faculty practice sites, working closely with the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and clinical operations leadership. The Medical Director will play a central role in supporting clinical faculty, ensuring efficient and high-quality clinical operations, and advancing the Department's mission of providing patient-centered, comprehensive primary care across the lifespan.

We are led by a dynamic Chair and Associate Dean of Primary Care who is committed to innovation, workforce development, and expanding access across Los Angeles communities.
Administrative Responsibilities (Estimated 40% Effort)The Medical Director works closely with the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Clinical Administrator to provide operational leadership and supervision of the Keck Family Medicine faculty practice.
- Directly supervises clinical faculty practicing within the five Keck Family Medicine practice sites, including physicians, advanced practice clinicians, and behavioral health clinicians.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for day-to-day clinical faculty concerns and supports clinicians in resolving operational or workflow challenges.
- Provides oversight regarding clinic schedules, leave requests, and cross-coverage arrangements to ensure continuity of care and adequate patient access.
- Works collaboratively with departmental leadership to support faculty engagement, professional development, and retention.
- Reviews and approves clinical schedule changes and leave/time-off requests in coordination with departmental administrative staff.
- Ensures appropriate clinical coverage across practice sites to maintain patient access and operational continuity.
- Collaborates with clinic managers and operational leadership to optimize clinic workflows and care delivery processes.
- Participates in the development, implementation, and oversight of clinic policies and procedures that support efficient, high-quality clinical operations.
- Works with departmental leadership to identify opportunities to improve practice efficiency, clinician experience, patient satisfaction, and quality performance.
- Supports initiatives related to quality improvement, access, and productivity within the faculty practice.
- Participates in and supports the annual merit review process for clinical faculty, including assessment of clinical performance, professionalism, productivity, and quality metrics.
- Partners with the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, Clinical Administrator, and operational leadership to support the strategic goals of the Department's clinical enterprise.
- Participates in departmental and organization committees related to clinical operations, quality improvement, and faculty practice management.
- Serves as signatory and medical supervisor for the Yellow Fever Vaccine clinic within the Health System Travel Clinic site.
- Maintains an active outpatient primary care panel.
- Obtains detailed and accurate medical histories and performs comprehensive physical examinations.
- Develops patient-centered care plans incorporating preventive care, chronic disease management, and psychosocial considerations.
- Coordinates referrals to specialty care when appropriate.
- Performs and/or interprets routine laboratory, radiologic, and diagnostic studies.
- Performs common office-based procedures including preventive examinations, Pap smears, suturing, wound care, and management of acute and chronic conditions in adults and children.
- Provides continuity of care for patients with complex medical needs.
- Participates in after-hours call coverage for patients seeking medical advice.
- Performs other clinical duties as assigned or requested.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in primary care leadership or clinical administration and demonstrate strong skills in clinician supervision, operational management, quality improvement, and team development.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in primary care leadership or clinical administration.
- Candidates must have completed an accredited residency program, be board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine, and be eligible for licensure in the State of California.
- Eligibility for appointment at the Assistant Professor level or higher is required.
- Experience supervising or mentoring clinical faculty or multidisciplinary care teams.
- Demonstrated experience in practice operations, quality improvement, or clinical program development.
- Ability to use data and performance metrics to support improvements in care delivery.
- Proven ability to foster high-functioning teams and collaborative clinical environments.
- Experience working in clinical environments that include learners such as residents or medical students.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly identify priorities and implement solutions.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual base salary: $240,000 - $290,000, commensurate with experience.
