Your opportunity at a glance WSLCB is accepting applications for permanent LCB Enforcement Officer positions. The Enforcement and Education Division is headquartered in Olympia and has four regional offices in Tacoma, Federal Way, Mount Vernon, and Spokane. These positions begin as entry level LCB Enforcement Officer Recruits and must successfully complete the 720‑hour Basic Law Enforcement training and the Field Training Officer program. Upon completion, Officers will be promoted to the LCB Enforcement Officer level. Enforcement Division works with approximately 13,000 liquor and cannabis licensees and their employees by providing education and counseling. Officers inspect premises, investigate complaints, conduct compliance checks, and may take administrative and criminal action against licensees, employees and the public who violate state laws. The WSLCB Enforcement and Education division is committed to integrity, honesty, dedication, and public trust. Officers are responsible for enforcing state liquor, cannabis, tobacco and vapor product laws and regulations. Organize and conduct random, unannounced inspections of licensed establishments to verify compliance and provide assistance. Respond to Department of Health referrals and take appropriate enforcement action. Work with federal agencies on contraband/counterfeit cigarette cases. Work at least 20 night and weekend hours per 160‑hour cycle, as required. Schedule and conduct random and targeted compliance checks under supervision; issue administrative or criminal enforcement actions. Manage investigative funds. Assist in field work involving premises inspections for complaint investigations. Provide education and training to retail licensees and employees regarding responsible sales; address DUI statistics and over‑service classes. Complete annual inspections of licensed premises in assigned area. Attend administrative duties such as training, court or administrative hearings, meetings, and committee assignments. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. 21 years old or older at time of application. Washington State resident with a valid Washington State Driver’s License. U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States. Ability to write clearly and succinctly. Ability to communicate orally effectively one‑on‑one and in group settings. Special Requirements (within one year of hire) Successfully complete 720 hours of basic law enforcement training from a certified academy. Successfully complete the field training per the Field Training Officer guide. Conditions of Employment Must be 21 years old at appointment. Applicants required to complete background questionnaire, fingerprint cards, and authorization to release information before interview. Must undergo background investigations, including polygraph, psychological testing, medical exam, and drug/alcohol tests. Employment Standards for Law Enforcement Positions No use or possession of illegal narcotics or controlled substances within the past five years. No possession or consumption of cannabis or hashish within the past one year. No possession of other illegal drugs within the last ten years. No possession of amphetamines or methamphetamines (such as speed, Ritalin, crank, crystal, ice, etc.) within the last ten years or over three times. No possession of hallucinogenic drugs over three times or within the last ten years. No possession of non‑prescribed opiates or narcotics over three times or within the last ten years. No possession of cocaine over three times or within the last ten years. No possession of non‑prescribed drugs or use of prescription drugs not prescribed to you after application with any law enforcement agency within last five years. No possession of prescription drugs not prescribed while employed or after having been employed by a law enforcement agency. No possession of anabolic steroids within the last two years. "Possession" is defined as illegal control, touching, or use of any illegal (non‑prescribed) drug. Possession as part of law enforcement duties is not considered illegal possession. Activities that result in rejection of application Any attempt at deception or falsification during any phase of the selection process. Any felony or domestic violence convictions. Factors considered for rejection Untruthful responses or prior drug possession. Unfavorable work history such as poor performance, attendance, disciplinary actions, or insubordination. Resignation to avoid dismissal for cause. Termination from another law enforcement agency for cause. Extensive moving traffic violations. Additional Skills and Abilities Effectively communicate with irate or intoxicated people. Use senses (sight, touch, smell, hearing) in job performance. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs during inspections or evidence processing. Respond to physical attack with escape or aid. Inspect multi‑level buildings. Administer first aid, including CPR, and handle potentially contaminated equipment. Respond to directions. Apply reasoning for discretionary decisions within state law and policies. Willingly arrest and handle suspected violators. Stand and walk for extensive periods. Work in liquor establishments with crowded, boisterous conditions. Remain calm and deescalate upset or hostile individuals. Drive or seat in vehicle for long periods. Work weekends, holidays, nights, overtime, and on call. Work alone for long periods. Work remotely using a laptop system that tracks enforcement actions. Wear ballistic vest and other safety equipment in all weather. Maintain equipment such as motor vehicle, firearm, video camera, projector, computer, cell phone, portable radio. How to Apply Step 1: Apply online at the Public Safety Testing website. Step 2: Complete written test conducted by Public Safety. Step 3: Complete Physical Abilities Testing (PAT) with Public Safety Testing. Step 4: Complete the Personal History Form on the PST website. Step 5: Submit an online application through careers.wa.gov. Step 6: Attend a panel interview. Step 7: Pass background investigation. Step 8: Chief’s interview. Step 9: Complete drug test, polygraph exam, psychological exam, and medical exam. After successful completion, the candidate will begin twelve months probationary status and then require Basic Law Enforcement Academy and Field Training.
