Details Labor and Delivery unit within a short-term acute care hospital 3x12-hour day shifts, 6:00 AM-6:30 PM Handles labor, induction, scheduled and unscheduled C-sections, C-section with salpingectomy, SROM, PPROM, hypertension, preeclampsia, and antepartum patients Patient ratios generally follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for active labor, 1:2 for non-active labor, and up to 1:3 for triage or antepartum patients Uses CADD epidural pumps, Alaris IV pumps, Phillips wired/wireless monitoring, Periwatch, Hillrom labor beds, Draeger Radiant warmers, vein light, and v-scan Charts in Cerner MCH float required within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate facility No on-call requirements specified Requirements Active IN or compact RN license required in hand prior to start BLS, ACLS, NRP, and FHM certifications required (AHA and RQI accepted) Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required Cerner charting experience required Community hospital experience preferred Charge nurse experience preferred Skilled in fetal monitoring, high-risk delivery assistance, C-section circulation/scrub, and management of obstetric emergencies such as hemorrhage/shock Experience with antepartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care Knowledge of medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and antihypertensives Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation Two supervisor references required for consideration Additional Information Provide direct patient care across labor, delivery, antepartum, and postpartum phases, including newborn assessment and neonatal resuscitation support Support high-risk deliveries, VBAC management, and care for patients with conditions such as preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, and multiple gestation Assist with newborn care including APGAR scoring, cord care, phototherapy, and discharge teaching to parents Provide breastfeeding and lactation support along with postpartum wound and pain management Facility performs 100-200 births per month Local candidates are not accepted for this position Floating is required within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital Must work 2 of 3 major holidays First-time travelers are welcome to apply Any prior IU Health perm or PRN employees must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must complete a designated break period to reset eligibility American Traveler Job ID P-747986.
