Accounting Manager

Location: Near Manchester, MD | Full-Time We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to join our manufacturing organization near Manchester, Maryland . This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys being close to the business and wants a role with meaningful responsibility across month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, inventory, cost accounting, and financial analysis . The Accounting Manager will work closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong accounting controls, and timely analysis of business performance. What You’ll Do Month-End Close & Financial Reporting Support the Controller through the full month-end close process , including preparation and posting of journal entries. Prepare and review accruals, prepaids, amortization, fixed assets, and other month-end activity . Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate/resolve variances. Analyze income statement accounts and prepare supporting schedules and financial analysis. Prepare and maintain accurate month-end close documentation and account reconciliations . Help ensure financial reporting complies with GAAP , including applicable revenue recognition requirements. Manufacturing & Cost Accounting Support accounting activities related to inventory, cycle counts, and annual physical inventory . Assist with annual overhead rate calculations and manufacturing cost analysis. Support the development and maintenance of standard costs and indirect rates . Analyze manufacturing variances, costs, and operational trends to help identify opportunities for improvement. Support cost accounting and percentage-of-completion accounting , where applicable. Partner with Operations and other departments to understand financial impacts and improve reporting accuracy. Audit, Tax & Corporate Reporting Support the Controller with schedules and information required by the parent company for internal and external reporting, including SEC reporting . Provide supporting schedules and documentation for tax provision and tax return preparation . Work directly with internal and external auditors and respond to audit requests and inquiries . Ensure accounting documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready. Analysis & Business Support Prepare ad-hoc financial reports, analysis, and management reporting as needed. Support budgeting and forecasting activities. Identify trends, variances, and potential issues and communicate findings to management. Serve as a hands-on accounting resource and potential backup for AR, AP, and payroll functions . Continuously look for ways to improve accounting processes, reporting, and efficiency. What We’re Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred; a Bachelor's degree in Business or related field may be considered. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience . Strong understanding of the full month-end close process — beyond simply AR/AP, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations. Demonstrated experience preparing journal entries, accruals, prepaids, amortization, reconciliations, and financial analysis . Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting . Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel , including the ability to analyze large data sets and build supporting schedules. Experience working with auditors and responding to audit requests. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate variances and determine root causes.
