Position Summary
The Front of House (FOH) Assistant Manager supports the FOH Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring the bakery meets company standards in customer service, retail sales, staffing, quality control, and visual merchandising. This role works closely with the FOH Manager to deliver exceptional products and efficient, friendly service. In the FOH Manager's absence, the Assistant FOH Manager coordinates all store procedures and collaborates directly with ownership and leadership. A passion for developing and sharing in-depth knowledge of Hewn’s artisan products is key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations & Management
Partner with the FOH Store Manager to drive sales growth, enhance customer experience, and execute sales promotions.
Perform store opening and closing procedures, ensuring security, cash-handling, and loss-prevention standards are maintained.
Monitor product, merchandise, and supply inventory levels; place ordering requests and communicate with management regarding production adjustments.
Manage coffee/drink ordering and assist with staff training on beverage programs.
Support preparation, packaging, and execution for catering and holiday online order distributions.
Perform all core FOH duties as needed, including operating POS system, packaging products, serving customers, and maintaining store cleanliness.
Maintain equipment cleanliness, safety, and operational standards.
Service Excellence & Leadership
Lead by example to ensure consistent, efficient, and friendly customer service across the entire team.
Proactively resolve customer inquiries or issues with warmth and professionalism.
Maintain high standards of store appearance, visual merchandising, and cleanliness.
Educate and motivate staff on product details, quality standards, and service protocols.
Support the manager in training new team members.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: Minimum 1 year of retail bakery or coffee shop experience; leadership experience preferred.
Barista Skills: Proven hands-on barista/espresso experience required.
Certifications: ServSafe Manager Certification required.
Technical Skills: Experience with POS/register operation, online ordering systems and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Availability: Must have availability to work weekend shifts.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (College degree preferred).
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with a detail-oriented, organized approach.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Ability to work in a fast-paced retail bakery and kitchen environment; Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 40 lbs.

Compensation & Benefits
Pay Rate: Starting at $18.00 / hour + Tips (depending on experience)
