MPI is looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to lead controls-focused projects from design through commissioning. This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced engineer who can work independently, guide other engineers, solve complex controls challenges, and keep projects moving toward on-time delivery.

You’ll work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing while helping advance MPI’s LEAN culture—simplifying processes, eliminating waste, developing people, and creating measurable value for our customers.

What You’ll Do

• Lead electrical and controls design for major machine and automation projects with limited supervision.
• Guide and mentor Controls Engineers throughout project execution.
• Estimate controls engineering hours and help establish realistic project schedules.
• Design electrical schematics and support electrical enclosure design within project cost, time, and performance requirements.
• Develop and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs; Omron, Allen-Bradley, and Siemens experience is desirable.
• Support robotic programming and integration; ABB and Fanuc experience is desirable.
• Apply knowledge of vision systems where required.
• Coordinate controls activities with the Senior Mechanical Engineer and other project stakeholders.
• Support manufacturing assembly, machine startup, installation, commissioning, and Site Acceptance Testing at customer locations when required.
• Prepare and maintain project documentation, including machine manuals, operating instructions, checklists, and ECRs.
• Review and verify engineering work and ensure designs receive appropriate second-engineer approval.
• Maintain project status, schedules, and Epicor project information to support on-time delivery.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and strengthen processes through MPI’s LEAN initiatives.
• Make sound business decisions that consider both immediate project needs and the long-term interests of MPI.
• Follow applicable ANSI and OSHA standards, MPI safety requirements, and established engineering practices.

What You Bring

• 6–10 years of related experience, with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proven, demonstrated experience leading teams through projects.
• Strong experience designing and programming capital equipment incorporating mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical design, schematics, machine-tool electrical design, and applicable electrical codes.
• Advanced PLC programming experience; Omron, Allen-Bradley, and Siemens are desirable.
• Advanced HMI programming experience; Indusoft is desirable.
• Robotics programming experience; ABB and Fanuc are desirable.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CAD for schematic development.
• Strong project organization skills, including the ability to plan and manage work from concept through completion.
• A methodical, practical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility and sound judgment when priorities or project requirements change.
• Ability to evaluate processes for efficiency and eliminate non-value-added work.

Work Environment & Requirements

• This position is based in a manufacturing environment.
• Occasional travel to customer sites may be required for installation, commissioning, and Site Acceptance Testing.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Compliance with MPI safety rules and applicable ANSI and OSHA standards is required.
• Due to ITAR agreements with our customers, all MPI employees are required to be US citizens.
