Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; must have or obtain a CDL license; must demonstrate a pattern of regular and timely attendance. The applicant must be able to obtain a CDL with passenger, airbrake, and school bus endorsements after a period of training. Salary: $24.43$27.70 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):

1. Drivers are to report to work on time and in the proper frame of mind to drive their routes. They must also be neat in appearance and of proper dress as outlined in the driver's manual. Cleanliness is a must.
2. Each morning before leaving the compound a thorough pre-trip inspection including filling out the form must be made. The pre-trip inspection form should be kept on the bus all day and should be turned in at the end of the day. In addition, every bus driver must test the emergency brake in both a forward and reverse motion before leaving the compound.
3. Any malfunctions found during the pre-trip inspection are to be reported immediately on a "Motor Vehicle Repair Form" and at the bottom of the pre-trip inspection form. All work requested must be on a work order before work will be performed, including oil and lights.
4. Drivers driving other than assigned buses must also report malfunctions. Spare buses are to be filled with fuel and cleaned out after use regardless of the condition you found it in.
5. Drivers are to be at their elementary school pick-up in the afternoon no more than 10 minutes or less than 5 minutes prior to dismissal time.
6. Time schedules on routes are to be established the second week of school for student pick-up and drop off. Routes and times are not to be changed without the approval of the Transportation Office. Changes may be made and additional time schedules requested due to change in the route and or the weather.
7. Drivers are not to leave the bus at any time students are on board.
8. Drivers are to display courtesy at all times while driving a bus. Always yield to a bus backing out of the garage or an assigned parking space.
9. Drivers are to keep the inside of the bus clean at all times. This is all inclusive.
10. Drivers are to comply with all rules for safe driving as outlined in the Commercial Driver Handbook and this handbook.
11. Drivers are not to use a school bus for personal business.
12. The use of profanity on school property during school hours will not be tolerated.
13. Use of intoxicating liquor or other controlled substance is just cause for immediate termination.
14. Weapons Elkhart Community schools' employees are not allowed to have weapons (concealed or otherwise) in their possession or on their person, on school property or when performing their Elkhart Community School duties. Weapons include, but are not limited to guns or knives. Failure to adhere strictly to this directive is considered grounds for termination of employment.
15. Effective 1/1/91 the School Board adopted a no smoking policy. See page eight of the General Information section of the handbook for the no smoking policy.
16. Speed entering the compound and within the compound shall not exceed 10 miles per hour. This is very slow but very safe. Any speeding in the compound or anywhere in a school bus is reckless driving and probable cause for termination.
17. Safety always. Excessive speed is not tolerated.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties and awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment.
