Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a nursing supervisor in a Healthcare Facility, Nursing Home, or other Long-Term Care (LTC) or Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in practicing state of PA prior to appointment. Current CPR/BLS certification prior to appointment. It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment. Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) position is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operations of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with local, state, and federal standards and regulations, established facility policies and procedures.May be directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director to provide appropriate care. There are essentially two different ADON tracks: general operations and a quality focus.A job incumbent is expected to be able to perform functions of either track at any given time, especially in the case of resource support needs.The main differentiator is the amount of time spent performing said functions, that is, general operations or a quality focus. Clinical Care Oversight: Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate staff coverage on the units, general cleanliness, and adequate staff coverage on the units, creating a homelike environment, and adherence to resident’s plan of care. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team, physicians, consultants, and community agencies to identify and resolve issues and improve the quality of services. Performs rounds to observe residents and ensure nursing needs are being met. Conducts observations of nursing care and supervises the development of in-service education to ensure nursing staff are competent in current knowledge and skills. Assists in oversight of resident incidents and concerns daily to identify any unusual occurrences and reports them promptly to the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and/or state agency for appropriate action. Monitors for allegations of potential abuse or neglect, or misappropriation of resident property, and participates in the investigative process. Operations and Management: Supports and assists the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Services department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current state and federal laws and regulations. Interprets and communicates policies and procedures to nursing staff; Monitors staff practices and implementation. Assists the staff scheduler in overseeing nursing schedules to ensure that resident needs, regulatory requirements, and budget standards are met. Quality Assurance Oversight: Monitors and evaluates the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery processes to identify areas of improvement Develops, implements, and maintains adherence to quality assurance programs, policies, and procedures. Analyzes data and compiles reports on quality indicators, trends, and performance metrics to identify potential areas for enhancement. Leads performance improvement projects and initiatives to enhance resident care outcomes. Keeps current on industry trends, research, and advancements in quality assurance practices to promote continuous improvement. Risk, Compliance, and Safety Management: Participates in QAPI and mock surveys; Implements correction plans. Reports noncompliance to the appropriate parties or stakeholders. May handle or coordinate resolution. (e.g., noncompliance, HR issues, patient/resident concerns, occupational hazards, safety, etc.). Complies with standards of business conduct, state/federal regulations, and guidelines. Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Human Resources Management: Guides, directs, and manages subordinate supervisor staff and their teams as necessary. Assists in evaluating the work performance of all nursing personnel and implements corrective action according to operational policies. Participates in the recruitment, hiring, and termination of nursing personnel as indicated. Knowledge of: Current state and federal regulations, practice standards, guidelines, policies, procedures, etc., including, but not limited to, the following Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations. Long Term Care (LTC) and Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) regulations and guidelines. Skill in: Microsoft Office Suite Nursing, compassionate patient care, and advocacy Ability to: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Seek new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices. Manage and direct a large and culturally diverse workforce. Communicate with medical and nursing staff as well as other departments. Work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within a long-term care facility. Plan, organize, direct, control, coordinate, and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of care and treatment provided by both professional nursing staff and direct care staff in all resident areas. Ensure the delivery of compassionate, quality care and nursing supervision, as evidenced by adequate staff coverage on the units, general cleanliness, and optimal resident functioning. Promote safe work practices, safety rules, and accident prevention procedures to prevent employee injury and illness. Meet general health requirements per facility policy, including medical and physical exams and verification of immunity status for various infectious diseases. Assist in evacuating residents during emergency situations. Work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and on holidays as necessary. On call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Sit, stand, and walk throughout the shift, possibly without breaks for long periods. Residency: Not required to live in Allegheny County Veterans' Preference: Will be awarded to eligible candidates.
