Staff Tax Accountant

Location: Downtown Chicago, IL (Hybrid Schedule) About the Opportunity Our client is a well-established Family Office serving high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, trusts, and investment entities. This organization provides comprehensive financial, tax, investment, and wealth management services and is seeking a motivated Staff Tax Accountant to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a public accounting professional looking to leverage their tax foundation while gaining exposure to complex high-net-worth tax structures and sophisticated partnership environments. Position Summary The Staff Tax Accountant will support the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, trusts, and related entities. The ideal candidate will have a strong public accounting foundation, experience working through at least two busy seasons, and a desire to build a long-term career within a family office environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare and assist with the review of individual, partnership, trust, and fiduciary tax returns. Support tax compliance and tax planning initiatives for high-net-worth families and their related entities. Assist with quarterly estimates, tax projections, and year-end tax planning activities. Analyze financial information and tax documents to identify reporting issues and planning opportunities. Work closely with family office leadership, external advisors, and investment professionals. Research federal, state, and local tax regulations and communicate findings to management. Assist with responses to tax notices and audit requests. Prepare tax workpapers and maintain supporting documentation. Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. CPA or CPA eligible required Minimum of 2 years of public accounting tax experience with at least two completed busy seasons. Experience preparing partnership returns and working with flow-through entities required. Exposure to high-net-worth individual taxation, trusts, estates, or family office clients preferred. Background from a small- to mid-sized public accounting firm preferred. Strong understanding of federal and state tax compliance. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and tax preparation software. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred Experience Family office, wealth management, or private investment client experience. Experience working with complex ownership structures and multi-entity organizations.
