THE OPPORTUNITY The Commercial Banking Associate assists Commercial Banking Managers with managing the Commercial Bank Portfolio and provides accurate, timely, and extensive information in response to client inquiries and requests to support the retention of profitable clients. The role works with internal operational business units to facilitate timely financial reporting, accurate documentation, and resolution of payment delinquencies and participates in initial financial analysis and credit presentations to Credit Administration. This role requires a high level of autonomy and decision-making. Performs all duties in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures, all U.S. state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the Company operates. HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE Apply existing guidelines and procedures when proposing solutions within the department. Use sound judgment and experience to work through potentially complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness, or a combination of these. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of banking services and implementation processes. Assist with loan portfolio maintenance, including tickler system management, past-due collections, financial reporting collection, organization and analysis, and covenant compliance testing. Perform credit and financial statement analysis, including spreading, projection modeling, and underwriting work. Prepare concept memos for Credit Administration approval and Letters of Intent for borrower execution. Interface with prospective clients, when directed, to collect necessary financial information and formation documents, review information for completeness and accuracy, and follow up until all information is collected. Review potentially complex legal entity documentation and facilitate due diligence and BSA documentation. Work with the Relationship Manager to review and participate in the negotiation of potentially complex legal documentation with outside counsel and specialists within the Bank. Work with the loan coordinator and loan closing team to facilitate a seamless loan closing experience for the client. Work with deposit and treasury management operations teams to support a positive client experience. Work with the Appraisal Department to order appraisals, environmental reports, and preliminary title reports. Provide effective customer service and assist in resolving problems within given authority. Escalate customer calls and problem accounts as appropriate. When applicable, primarily support Commercial Real Estate Relationship Managers with managing the Commercial Real Estate Bank Portfolio. Perform other duties and projects as assigned. WHAT YOU’LL BRING Two to three years of experience in the banking and/or financial services industry required. Demonstrated knowledge of, adherence to, monitoring of, and responsibility for compliance with state and federal regulations and laws applicable to the position, including Regulation Z, Regulation B, the Fair Housing Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Bank Secrecy Act in conjunction with the USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering requirements, Customer Information Program, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and Community Reinvestment Act. Intermediate knowledge of bank products and services, including Bank Secrecy Act compliance. Foundational skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Basic typing skills sufficient to meet the production needs of the position. Fundamental financial math skills, including basic financial ratios, interest, and percentages; ability to balance accounts and perform calculations using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; identify routine mathematical errors; compute basic rates, ratios, and percentages; and draft and interpret basic graphs. Basic organizational and time management skills. Clear oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write basic reports and correspondence, and communicate clearly with customers and employees.
