Senior Industrial Door & Dock Field Service Technician

Picture your day: you start by reviewing your route, stocking your service vehicle, and heading to a customer site where a high-cycle overhead door is down. You diagnose a broken spring, verify safety interlocks, and get operations back online. By midday, you’re fine-tuning an automatic entrance, setting door closers, and integrating low-voltage access control. In the afternoon, you wrap a storefront glazing adjustment, document your work, and talk the customer through preventive steps. Every call is different—always hands-on, always safety-first.

What you’ll do

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of commercial and industrial doors, dock equipment, and related hardware using the right tools and methods.
• Diagnose and complete routine and complex repairs on springs, hinges, locks, and electrical/low-voltage components; if you’re eager to learn welding, we will train.
• Configure and set up locks, handles, closers, low-voltage wiring, and access control systems.
• Verify installs meet safety requirements and applicable building codes.
• Deliver outstanding customer service—explain findings, outline repair options, and recommend cost-effective solutions.
• Maintain accurate service records, installation notes, and reports.
• Perform quality checks to ensure work meets Vortex’s high standards.

What you’ll bring

• 3+ years’ experience in commercial door service (we are considering applicants with at least 4+ years of door industry experience).
• High school diploma or equivalent; AAADM certification is a plus.
• Broad knowledge of door types, brands, and associated hardware.
• Skilled with hand and power tools; able to read a tape measure and perform fractional math for precise layouts.
• Strong knowledge of safety practices and commitment to protocols.
• Basic computer proficiency for documentation and communication.
• Physically able to move items of 50 lbs. or higher; can lift and bend continuously, climb ladders up to 20’ in height, work on knees for extended periods, and operate power tools proficiently.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; persuasive when needed and effective in fast-paced situations.
• Detail-oriented, reliable, and self motivated with strong troubleshooting ability.

Schedule and field environment

• Full-time within business hours of 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday–Friday, with some overtime and on-call as needed.
• Fast-paced, results-oriented field work.
• Drive a company vehicle; must have a valid driver license.
