School Psychologist

1770 School Psychologist Prof II (12 Month)
Performs intermediate professional work in making diagnostic evaluations of individual pupils to determine disabilities including an assessment and interpretation of the student's intellectual, social, and emotional development; serves as a consultant to school personnel and parents in interpreting problems; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Special Education.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with performing diagnostic evaluation of students, assessing and interpreting intellectual, social and/or emotional development; conducting consultations; preparing and maintaining files and records. Schedules evaluations, secures records from community agencies, and observes the student; completes individual psychological evaluations including intelligence, achievement, perceptual and projective personality measures; obtains any ancillary evaluations; e.g., hearing, visual, speech, educational and medical; completes a written report to be sent to the schools and other agencies, including an interpretation of the results of the psychological evaluation; conducts parent/school conferences, including recommendations for the child's school program and/or home environment; provides psychological counseling and related services to students when required; provides and coordinates crisis counseling and intervention services; attends IEP Manifestation, Child Study Committee, IEP Review, Triennial Re-evaluation, Behavior Intervention Plan, Special Education Eligibility and Section 504 meetings; acts as chair at designated meetings; acts as liaison with community agencies; assists in developing special education policies and procedures; performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the special education process for diagnostic and evaluative procedures; thorough knowledge of federal and state mandate and local procedures and regulations relating to special education program; excellent oral and written communications skills; skill in the use of computer equipment; ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, community agencies and the general public.
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in psychology or related field.
Special Requirements
Possession of postgraduate license with school psychology endorsement.
