Summary This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Charles George VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Asheville, North Carolina, in the Fleet Section of Environmental Management Service (EMS). Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Maintains and evaluates the effectiveness of the motor vehicle fleet. Collects pertinent data on vehicles and reviews a variety of reports (mileage, repairs and maintenance, vehicle cost, and funding projections, etc.) relating to usage and expenses to identify problems for further review to ensure maximum operational vehicle readiness. Reports all General Services Administration (GSA) mileages monthly and reviews monthly General Services Administration (GSA) bills for accuracy. Monitors and analyzes vehicle utilization and maintenance records to identify adverse trends, systematic problems, and unique maintenance situations. Identifies problem areas and recommends appropriate changes in procedures and policies to supervisor. Maintains database and enters all vehicle data, monthly mileage of trip, fuel purchases, maintenance cost, and accident information. Prepares and submits General Services Administration (GSA) Accident Reports for all General Services Administration (GSA) vehicles involved in accidents. Ensures all VA drivers are properly licensed to drive government vehicles and proper trip tickets are maintained and completed. This includes filing all trip logs, credit card receipts, accident reports, pictures, and repair slips. Ensures that maintenance and cleanliness are managed on all fleet vehicles. Prepares and ensures that all monthly, quarterly, and annual reports are completed in a timely manner. Organizes and maintains the filing system, assuring all documents are filed properly so they can be retrieved at a moment's notice. Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full time, Monday- Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, may include evenings and/or weekends based on operational needs. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant. Specialized experience for this position includes: entering vehicle data and maintaining vehicle records, including fuel use, maintenance history, and accident data; preparing accident reports or damage claims and coordinating repairs with vendors; tracking vehicle usage, mileage, maintenance, and repair costs to identify trends or problems affecting fleet operations; reviewing vehicle-related invoices or billing for accuracy; and ensuring maintenance and cleanliness are managed on all fleet vehicles. NOTE: One (1) full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
