Staff Pharmacist

Location: Burr Ridge, IL

Schedule: Monday through Friday with rotating weekends as scheduled. This position primarily covers PM shifts (5:30 PM - 2:00 AM) .

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Pharmacist to join our long-term care pharmacy team in Burr Ridge, Illinois. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting pharmacy operations, ensuring the accurate verification and dispensing of medications, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Working collaboratively with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff, you will help ensure medications are processed and delivered in a timely manner to meet established release goals for our long-term care facility partners. Responsibilities also include responding to clinical and operational inquiries, reviewing billing and data entry requests, and verifying Cubex machines, emergency kits, refrigerator kits, and IV kits.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute daily pharmacy operations while meeting workflow expectations, production goals, and critical deadlines.
• Verify prescription orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and completeness.
• Review and approve medication packaging, labeling, and dispensing activities.
• Ensure timely processing and verification of medications to support 2:00 PM and 2:00 AM release schedules.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians and production staff to maintain workflow efficiency and adherence to quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations, including DEA requirements and third-party payer guidelines.
• Support the ordering, receiving, storage, documentation, and inventory management of controlled substances, including maintenance of Schedule II perpetual inventory records.
• Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of sterile IV products and compounded medications.
• Respond to phone calls, emails, billing inquiries, and data-entry requests in a professional and timely manner.
• Review and verify Cubex machine replenishments, emergency medication kits, refrigerated kits, and IV kits.
• Monitor and clear workflow dashboards daily to ensure uninterrupted pharmacy operations.
• Ensure proper segregation and disposal of damaged, dropped, or expired medications in accordance with EPA, RCRA, state, and company guidelines.
• Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.
• Participate in evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage as needed.
• Follow all company policies regarding attendance, safety, professionalism, and dress code.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
• Current and active Illinois Pharmacist License in good standing.
• Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacist experience.
• Strong clinical knowledge and ability to evaluate:

  • Allergy and contraindication concerns
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to medication safety.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced pharmacy environment.

• Ability to effectively prioritize, multitask, and manage competing responsibilities.
• Proficiency in pharmacy systems and technology platforms.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Long-term care pharmacy experience.
• Experience with sterile compounding and IV preparation.
• Previous experience supervising or mentoring pharmacy support staff.
