REHABILITATION THERAPIST, STATE FACILITIES (MUSIC-SAFETY)

Rehabilitation Therapist, State Facilities (Music‑Safety) Job Summary: Provide music therapy services at Metropolitan State Hospital to help patients relate to their environment, themselves, and the community through non‑threatening, self‑motivated music‑based activities. Salary: $8,010.00 – $9,433.00 per month Location: Metropolitan State Hospital, Norwalk, CA Responsibilities Offer direct rehabilitation therapy services on home units and the Treatment Mall, utilizing music media and related activities. Organize, plan, and deliver recovery‑oriented courses, groups, and activities tailored to patient objectives. Provide orientation to all patients regarding rehabilitation groups, leisure activities, and special events available in the hospital. Coordinate special events, including holiday recognition, unit parties, and other quality‑of‑life enhancements for patients. Maintain a safe and secure environment by supervising controlled items, responding to therapeutic strategy interventions, and managing patient behaviors. Assess each assigned patient’s interest in rehabilitation therapy, document assessments, and develop treatment objectives. Collect data on patient progress through shift changes, interdisciplinary meetings, group observations, patient interviews, and chart reviews. Prepare and present documentation of patient progress at Treatment Plan Conferences. Participate in professional development activities, including core training, seminars, conferences, and continuing education opportunities. Attend monthly Rehabilitation Therapy Department service meetings and file appropriate progress notes (weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly). Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Music Therapy or a related field. Completion of an approved clinical internship in the appropriate rehabilitation specialty at an accredited hospital or rehabilitation center. Experience with principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature of rehabilitation services, especially related to developmental, mental, or physical disorders. Knowledge of mental health education, scope and activities of health and welfare agencies, and applicable federal and state programs. Ability to secure accurate clinical data, compose clear reports, interpret statistical data, and make effective decisions.
