Role Description

The Legal Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Burlington, NC, supporting attorneys with day-to-day legal and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include preparing, formatting, and organizing legal documents and correspondence; managing case files (physical and electronic); scheduling appointments, court dates, and meetings; and maintaining organized records and calendars. The role also involves communicating with clients, courts, and other parties by phone, email, and in person; assisting with data entry, billing, and file management; and ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in all work. The Legal Assistant collaborates closely with attorneys and staff to support efficient case handling and smooth office operations.

Qualifications

Foundational understanding of law and legal procedures, with the ability to support attorneys in various practice areas.

Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, proofreading, and formatting pleadings, letters, and forms.

Strong communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication with clients, courts, and internal team members.

Experience with administrative assistance tasks such as scheduling, record keeping, data entry, and office organization.

Prior experience as a Legal Assistant or in a law office environment, or relevant training in legal support work.

Solid computer skills, including use of word processing, spreadsheets, email, and case management or document management software.

High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and respect for client confidentiality and sensitive information.

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or a legal assistant/paralegal certificate is beneficial.
