Job Summary:

The Food Safety Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring that the final product meets all agreed upon specifications and has been grown and packed following our good agricultural and manufacturing practices.

Duties/Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties listed below are representative of the essential functions, qualifications, physical demands, and the work environment encountered in this position. • Incoming goods receipt and inspection
  • Check procured items as they are received into the facility to ensure nothing is compromised or out of spec. This includes substrate/soil, chemicals, growing inputs, packaging, etc. and value-added projects like chicken (where temp checks are critical).
• Pre-operation inspections
  • Document pre-operational inspection prior to the start of shifts.
• Preventative Control/Critical Control Point
  • Conduct hourly PC and CCP checks.
• Finished Product
  • Ensure the packaging, the product, and the labeling all line up appropriately.
  • Ensures that specifications are met on all fronts.
  • Documents these checks for FS and quality control records.
• Other duties as assigned  especially as they pertain to Food Safety/Quality Control and Assurance  

Required Skills/Abilities:

• HACCP trained or PCQI certified (will offer training if needed)
• Ability to read and understand English.
• Ability to work in a wet environment.
• Must wear appropriate preventive protection equipment including, but not limited to, clothing, safety glasses and gloves when needed.
• Be able to work independently.
• Be willing to learn new methods and procedures.
• Pay is dependent on experience and skills.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED certificate preferred
• Produce production experience preferred
• 3 – 5 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred  

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and environments both hot and cold.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low.

• The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example: two arms, two legs or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down.
• The ability to time movements in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object.
• The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move 10 to 25 pounds and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
