Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Distribution Supervisor, this position is responsible for fulfilling orders from various warehouse locations and/or prepares products for shipment in accordance with customer profiles and order specifications.

This position requires good communication and the ability to work autonomously with a focus on safety. Effectiveness in this role also requires some knowledge of shipping and inventory control procedures as well as the ability to understand and interpret team metrics. The job encounters recurring work situations of a routine nature where the ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required. Accuracy is required in performing all functions of this position; errors in work could cause delays in schedules or customer complaints. This position requires the individual to be ready to start work any shift on-time and maintain strong attendance performance. This position normally receives general instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignments.

The material handler will work in a warehouse environment under various temperatures including room temperature (59–86 degrees F), cold-room (36-46 degrees F), and/or freezer-room (-4 to –23 degrees F). This position is expected to routinely and safely operate Powered Industrial Equipment to move material & also data entry into inventory management systems.

We currently have a 3rd shift positions open, Sunday to Thursday at the Grand Island, NY location.

What Will You Do?

• Pick/pull customer orders by obtaining material/products from designated warehouse locations in various temperatures (Ambient, Cold Room & Freezer). Uses material handling equipment as required to pick product, i.e., hand truck and motorized pallet truck. Will undergo training to be licensed on a walkie/rider and electric pallet truck. Additional training to operate other PIT equipment may be initiated as required
• Fills out proper paperwork by indicating quantities being picked. Moves orders to the appropriate staging area. Performs all required warehouse transactions in the E1 operating system or WMS Lite.
• Examines, sorts, arranges, counts and packs items for storage and/or shipment in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.
• Routinely pushes and pulls pallets of materials in a warehouse environment
• Lifts up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Regularly climbs and reaches.
• Satisfactorily completes training requirements and operate within all ISO standards pertaining to site Distribution including, but not limited to, Control of Documents and Quality Policy.
• Complies with all warehouse safety procedures.
• Performs general housekeeping duties (5S areas)
• Work required overtime based on business needs
• May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience

• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a warehouse or material handling environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and safely.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience using warehouse equipment (Order picker, Stacker, Pallet jack)
• Previous experience using an ERP System; E1 is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Experience with Continuous Improvement and 5S theories and principles
• Functional knowledge of shipping and inventory control procedures is preferred.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

Works in a warehouse environment under various temperatures including room temperature (59–86 degrees F), cold-room (36-46 degrees F), and/or freezer-room (-4 to –23 degrees F); is required to lift up to 40 lbs. and may be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties. Must be able to work safely with materials and equipment.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $19.00–$21.61.
