Program Description

The Center for Living and Learning is located on a serene, thirty acre farm. Our vocational training program runs from 8am-12pm Monday – Friday and provides pre-employment transition services for adults with mental illness. The Center is also a Community Rehabilitation Provider for Vocational Rehabilitation through the state of TN providing supported employment services for job trainees. A qualified candidate will have the opportunity to plan and facilitate lessons and support the job placement process.

Job Summary

Curriculum Delivery: Oversees the development and implementation of all vocational and wellness curriculum, ensuring that trainees are receiving relevant and necessary training.   

Weekly Lessons: Responsible for preparing and facilitating four lessons each week. Topics include:

• Pre-Employment: soft skills, career exploration, professionalism, resume development, interview preparation
• Mental Health: distress tolerance, acceptance, coping skills, anxiety management, values, and psychoeducation
• Life Skills: executive function skills, self-awareness, self-advocacy, communication
• Enrichment: hands-on activities covering a variety of categories including physical wellness, creativity, and mindfulness

Employment Support: assist with job shadowing, job training, job placement and/or job coaching with the goal of successful community employment for trainees 

Case Management: Collaborate with the residential and medical team to develop treatment plans for the trainees. Meet monthly with trainees as a team to ensure goals are being met.

• Address and resolve trainee needs in a respectful and compassionate manner
• Effectively communicate with trainees experiencing active symptoms of mental illness and assist with deescalation as needed
• Record daily progress notes
• Manage accessing, organizing and uploading documents on Google drive
• Purchase supplies weekly or as needed
• Follow safety policies and procedures
• Attend applicable staff trainings (biannual meetings, CPR/First Aid training, etc)

Qualifications

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an associate degree/high school diploma and three years relevant experience. Paid experience working directly with those with a disability will be considered first. All candidates are subject to a background check and must have reliable transportation as well as a valid driver’s license. Recommended qualifications include:

• Strong work ethic
• Relational support skills: the ability to respectfully guide, confront, advise, delegate, and direct trainees 
• Ability to independently oversee projects 
• Follow program structure already established while maintaining flexibility
• Ability to multi-task and keep daily records
• Ability to use time and organizational skills effectively
• Ability to quickly and calmly adapt to change
