Counselor Residential SUD Program | Newark, NJ

The counselor helps residents work through substance-use and behavioral-health issues while they are living in the program. This is not a correctional facility, although some clients may have Recovery Court or criminal-justice involvement. The Counselor provides ongoing clinical counseling and case management to adult male clients who are living within the residential Integrity House program.

DUTIES:

Clinical Assessment & Treatment Assess client needs using evidence-based assessment tools such as ASI and CASI.

Diagnose substance-use disorders within appropriate clinical scope.

Determine appropriate level of care using ASAM criteria.

Obtain previous records relevant to the current treatment episode.

Develop client-centered, recovery-oriented treatment plans with measurable objectives.

Provide individual, group and family SUD counseling.

Provide crisis intervention and psychoeducation.

Address co-occurring conditions identified within the client's treatment plan.

Review clients throughout the treatment episode to determine continued treatment, transfer or discharge. Review and revise treatment plans as clinically appropriate.

Case Management & Coordination Maintain active communication with supervisors, Directors, coworkers, families when consent is provided and referral sources.

Participate in clinical case conferences.

Coordinate with: Criminal justice agencies Recovery Court SAI care coordinators Mental-health providers Schools Employers DCP&P Other referral sources Develop discharge and transfer plans.

Coordinate transition to appropriate levels of care.

Residential-Specific Responsibilities Work with clients who are living onsite in a structured residential treatment environment. Observe self-administration of medication where applicable.

Accompany clients to outside appointments where applicable.

Collect drug screens from same-gender clients.

Monitor/process urine analysis results.

Support residential safety and security protocols.

Be available for on-call crisis responsibilities where applicable.

Assist clients with maintaining treatment and residential program expectations.

Utilization Review / Continued Care Conduct CSR for SAI clients.

Complete LOCI/extension requests for Recovery Court clients.

Complete utilization reviews for private insurance clients.

Conduct concurrent reviews with MCOs.

Support continued residential treatment authorization.

Communicate with insurance companies,

Recovery Court task evaluators and SAI care coordinators when clinically necessary.

Documentation & Compliance

Complete all clinical documentation according to DOH and contractual requirements.

Maintain accurate clinical records.

Document counseling, education, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up.

Complete detailed incident reports when required.

Document drug-screen results.

Maintain active treatment authorization.

Complete weekly optimized billing. Maintain confidentiality and follow applicable ethical standards.

QUALIFICATION: CADC, LSW, LAC/LCADC/LCSW/LPC /LCADC with 2 YRS SUD/Addiction/ MH/ BH/ Correctional/ Adult Social Services Master's Degree in Counseling-related field required.

Must apply for approved Alcohol & Drug Counselor coursework at hire.

Must actively pursue credential. Must obtain valid credential within 3 years of hire.
