Position Summary Coordinator, Scheduling & Registration, Primary Care – Part Time (Benefits Eligible) – Hempstead. The role involves scheduling appointments in the Hospital Information System, liaising with referring physician office staff, answering and filtering calls, and completing pre‑registration and registration processes. The coordinator creates a positive first impression for patients, families, and external customers, obtaining demographic, prescription, medical, and insurance information and ensuring clear communication of financial responsibilities. Job Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Schedules patient appointments; may call patients to confirm appointments, location, required items, and preparatory instructions. Communicates with patients, referring physician offices, and staff in a helpful, friendly, and professional manner; answers and filters calls promptly, forwarding to the appropriate lines, including the Cyracom phone system for patients speaking different languages. Conducts check‑in and registration upon patient arrival, using the RELATE model to communicate with patients and families; ensures patients or their representatives understand required consents and regulations at registration. Collects co‑pays or other patient responsibilities in accordance with NYU Winthrop Hospital Point of Service collection policies. Verifies documentation for accuracy, including prescriptions, insurance cards, photo IDs, and thorough patient index search to prevent duplicate medical record numbers. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent. 1–2 years of customer service experience. Strong oral and written communication, multitasking, attention to detail, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Knowledge of medical terminology. Preferred Qualifications 1–2 years of scheduling experience in a medical office or healthcare facility setting. Knowledge of software systems such as Epic, Carestream, Soarian, or similar.
