Polysomnographic Technician

Polysomnographic Tech I-Children's of Mississippi-Full Time and Part TimeTo develop competency in and perform polysomnographic testing and associated interventions. To perform all types of sleep studies under the guidance of a senior tech. To develop skills in scoring studies during recording. To clean and assemble equipment used for studies.High School Diploma/GED and 6 months of direct patient care experience or current enrollment or completion in an accredited educational program in Polysomnography.Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: NAResponsibilitiesPerforms a variety of polysomnographic exams on sleeping patient to detect common sleep disorders.Follows procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data; documents procedures and data recorded from exams in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic result.Verifies medical order and protocol; completes and verifies documentation; explains testing procedures and orients the patient to the sleep center.Prepares and calibrates equipment used for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments as necessary.Follows specified procedures to verify integrity of collected data and instructs patients on completing questionnaires.Performs equipment care and maintenance; complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding patient safety and infection control issues.Performs a variety of sleep studies under the supervision and guidance of a senior tech and scores studies as they record.Continues to learn and gain experience in order to work toward obtaining certification and/or registry.The duties listed are general in nature and are examples of the duties and responsibilities performed and are not meant to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
