About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - Experience in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias - Experience in post-cardiac surgery care - Skills in assisting with chest tube insertion/removal - Competence in care of ventilated patients - Familiarity with pacing (temporary and transvenous) and IV insulin protocols - Ability to manage POD 1 cardiac patients and admit fresh hearts Description: This position requires 2 years of experience in CVICU. The nurse will provide care to patients in a critical care environment. Responsibilities include management and interpretation of dysrhythmias. The RN will care for patients following cardiac surgery, but not directly from the operating room. There is a requirement to assist with chest tube insertion and removal. The staff member will provide care for ventilated patients and utilize pacing as needed. Knowledge of IV insulin protocols is also necessary. Weekends are required every third week. Staff will need to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity as necessary. The average daily patient census ranges from 1 to 8. The unit has a total of 8 staffed beds. Charting is completed using an electronic health record system. Communication to be utilized includes SBAR and shift notes. The patient population primarily includes adults with various cardiac conditions. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including respiratory and physical therapy, is essential. Special procedures conducted in the unit can include CABG, TAVR, and other structural heart procedures. Additional equipment may include chest tubes and ventilators. The RN should be comfortable working with high-acuity patients and managing complex situations. Travel experience is required. Documented supervisory references from previous assignments are needed. Candidates must have completed at least one travel assignment to be considered.
