Job Summary The Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) serves as the senior executive responsible for the strategic leadership, operational performance, financial optimization, and transformation of all revenue cycle functions across the El Paso County Hospital District, including University Medical Center of El Paso, UMC Surgical Hospital, ambulatory and provider-based clinics, physician enterprise operations, and affiliated entities. Reporting directly to the District Chief Financial Officer, the CRO is accountable for optimizing reimbursement, cash flow, revenue integrity, patient access, utilization management, clinical documentation improvement, coding, billing, accounts receivable, managed care performance, and regulatory compliance. The CRO ensures the organization achieves sustainable financial performance while supporting UMC's mission as the region's only academic medical center, Level I Trauma Center, public safety-net hospital, and teaching institution. Minimum Job Requirements Ten years of progressive revenue cycle leadership, from which five years of experience are in an executive role within a complex healthcare organization. Proven record overseeing revenue cycle operations across both hospital and physician enterprise settings, with strong preference for experience in environments such as academic medical centers, integrated delivery networks, public or safety‑net systems, or governmental healthcare organizations. Demonstrate success leading large‑scale operational transformations and performance improvement initiatives. License/Registration/Certification Healthcare Financial Management Association Revenue Cycle Executive Certification or equivalent advanced revenue cycle certification preferred. Education And Training Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field required. Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Finance, or related field required. Skills Expert knowledge of healthcare reimbursement methodologies. Deep understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and governmental payment programs. Strategic revenue cycle leadership across hospital, ambulatory, and physician enterprise settings. Financial acumen, including forecasting, budgeting, cash flow optimization, and KPI management. Operational excellence and performance improvement, including workflow redesign and standardization. Advanced analytical and data interpretation skills, including dashboard and KPI analysis. Strategic planning and enterprise‑level decision‑making. Executive communication and presentation skills, including Board‑level reporting. Payer contracting and negotiation ability, including reimbursement modeling. Regulatory and compliance mastery, including audit readiness and risk mitigation. Revenue integrity leadership, including coding, charging, documentation, and billing accuracy. Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) and utilization management oversight. Technology and systems proficiency, including EHRs, patient accounting systems, and practice management platforms. Experience with automation, AI, and emerging revenue cycle technologies. Change leadership, including large‑scale transformation and organizational alignment. Cross‑functional collaboration, especially with Finance, IT, Compliance, Legal, and Clinical teams. Physician engagement and education, including alignment with compensation and productivity models. Managed care strategy and payer relationship management. Risk management and regulatory monitoring, including proactive response to policy changes.
