Job Summary

Registered Nurse (RN), Medical-Surgical with Telemetry Madison, Wisconsin. This position provides care to adult and geriatric patients on a post-operative general surgery unit specializing in complex abdominal procedures. The role requires strong telemetry, surgical, and high-acuity patient care skills in a collaborative clinical environment.

Job Details

• Required Qualifications: Two years of acute care experience within the last three years in the submitted specialty; Wisconsin or compact Registered Nurse (RN) license; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA); experience caring for a patient ratio of 4:1; competency in telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, cardiac monitoring, central and peripheral line care, arterial line management, blood product administration, chest tubes, feeding tubes, drains, wound care, ostomy care, insulin protocols, heparin protocols, oxygen administration, intravenous therapy, and rapid response or code team procedures.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a community hospital, long-term acute care setting, or Level I or Level II trauma setting; experience with Epic charting.
• Schedule: Day shifts consisting of 12 hours from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., 36 hours per week, with every-third-weekend and holiday rotation as required; two weekend shifts within six weeks.
• Additional Information: The position is based on a 28-bed general surgery unit caring for patients undergoing complex abdominal procedures involving colorectal, surgical oncology, and emergency general surgery. Common patient needs include nasogastric tubes, tube feedings, peripherally inserted central catheters, total parenteral nutrition, surgical drains, ileostomies, colostomies, patient-controlled analgesia, epidural analgesia, wound vacuum therapy, and ostomy education. The patient population includes adults and geriatric patients, with an average daily census of 28. A telemetry assessment is required before the start of the assignment, with strict passing criteria.
