This is a grant-funded position Position Overview The Medical Assistant (MA) delivers safe and compassionate care as a vital member of the healthcare team, providing patient-centered care and ensuring patient safety. This role serves patients seeking services from the Clinical Health Services (CHS) Program, working with the clinical team to create and maintain efficient, patient-centered daily clinic operations while providing comprehensive care. The role operates in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Harris County Public Health. This position will service Harris County communities by providing comprehensive care to patients on a Medical Mobile Unit. Duties & Responsibilities Assist with patient appointments by performing vaccinations, phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), urine collection, pregnancy tests, lead testing, vital signs, and gathering patient histories. Perform clinical front office duties: scheduling, answering phones, and checking patients in/out as needed. Prepare and label all patient specimens for transport to appropriate laboratories. Provide in-room support for clinical staff during clinic visits, including assisting the provider during procedures. Maintain laboratories and exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner in accordance with infection control policies; complete monthly inventory. Assist in data entry and electronic data processing using the electronic medical record system (Epic), Microsoft Excel, and related programs/sites. Support the coordination of scheduling patients to receive services from multidisciplinary team members. Interview clients to collect required information for eligibility determination, using grant and payor guidelines. Qualifications Education: Completion of a community college or technical school Medical Assistant program. Experience: Six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting. Licensure/Certifications: American Heart Association CPR Certification; Valid Texas Driver's License. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong understanding of cultural competency. Commitment to ethics and public trust; ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent communication skills (verbal & written). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment. Ability to work well with the public and staff members. Additional Information Language : Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Position Type : Full-time, grant-funded. Hours : Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Work Environment : Clinical setting; standard office equipment used. Physical Demands : Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 20 pounds; bending and standing for periods.
