Position Overview

We are recruiting a Senior Accountant for a growing services company in Smyrna, GA. This role is well suited for an accounting professional who has built a solid foundation during the first few years of their career and is now looking for greater ownership, visibility, and professional growth.

Working closely with the Corporate Controller, the Senior Accountant will play an important role in the monthly close and ongoing financial operations of the business. Rather than focusing on one narrow accounting function, this position provides exposure across cash, revenue, receivables, payables, payroll-related activity, fixed assets, leases, prepaid expenses, and employee expenditures.

The role will also participate in initiatives designed to make the finance function more efficient, scalable, and automated as the organization continues to evolve.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of assigned general ledger accounts and ensure financial activity is complete, accurate, and properly supported.
• Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the monthly close process.
• Review banking activity and investigate differences between cash records, bank information, and the general ledger.
• Support monthly financial reporting and prepare schedules used in balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reporting.
• Maintain accounting activity associated with areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue, payroll and benefits, fixed assets, leases, prepaid expenses, and employee expenditures.
• Monitor company spending and help identify trends, unusual activity, and potential opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Assist with cash management activities and short-term cash forecasting.
• Help strengthen accounting processes and internal controls as the business grows.
• Coordinate with external auditors by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to information requests.
• Partner with operational teams to research accounting questions and provide useful financial information.
• Help ensure accounting practices remain aligned with applicable standards, internal procedures, and reporting requirements.
• Participate in finance transformation projects, including opportunities to automate bank reconciliations, accounts payable workflows, and other recurring accounting activities.
• Support additional accounting and finance initiatives as business needs evolve.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of professional accounting experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred.
• Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
• Comfortable working with financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Strong Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to research discrepancies, identify underlying issues, and work toward practical solutions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
• Experience working with accounting, ERP, or industry-specific business software is a plus.
• Interest in improving processes and using automation to make accounting operations more efficient.
