We are seeking an Associate Director to join our Phase 4 HIV Prevention Medical Affairs Research team. This role will support evidence-generation priorities for LEN PrEP, including Phase 4 Gilead-sponsored, collaborative, and investigator-initiated research; proposal development and review; and translation of research findings into abstracts, manuscripts, and scientific presentations. The ideal candidate brings strong methodological expertise in observational, clinical, and/or implementation research, a solid understanding of HIV prevention and treatment, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment with internal and external stakeholders. Additional experience with data analysis and statistical software is preferred but not required.

This position is based in Foster City, California & does not provide relocation assistance.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

• As part of the Medical Affairs Research HIV Phase 4 research team, provide scientific and operational support for the following:
  • Implementation of request for proposal (RFP) programs that align with evidence-generation priorities for LEN PrEP
  • Support for internal stakeholders and external investigators to develop and submit rigorous research proposals
  • Critical review of research proposals submitted to RFPs, providing insight and guidance on study design, methodology and analysis plan feasibility, and strategic alignment
  • Analysis and interpretation of data from the PROPEL study, a Gilead-sponsored, Phase 4, Hybrid Effectiveness-Implementation Study of LEN PrEP implementation in the U.S.
  • Contribute to cross-functional HIV evidence-generation efforts, including coordination of data generation plans and management of study metric trackers
• Leverage methodologic expertise, research experience, and HIV knowledge to:
  • Work with Gilead team members and external investigators, to design, develop, and serve as Medical Affairs lead for collaborative studies
  • Provide high-quality technical and methodological input to cross-functional teams to effectively use research learnings to optimize prevention practice and improve health outcomes
  • Lead, coordinate, and track the development of communications (e.g., abstracts, manuscripts, scientific forum presentations, slide decks) to build the peer-reviewed published evidence base from Phase 4 HIV prevention research
• Provide support at advisory boards, conferences, and other external meetings.
• Adhere to all applicable pharmaceutical codes, Office of Inspector General (OIG) guidelines, and Gilead policies

Basic Qualifications:

• 10+ Years with BS/BA
  OR

• 8+ Years with MS/MA or MBA
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Ph.D., MD, PharmD) in a scientific, medical, or public health discipline (e.g., epidemiology, implementation science, health policy, data science)
• 5-8 years’ experience conducting HIV clinical, observational, and/or implementation research with specialized training in research methods (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, implementation science, health economics). Candidates with fewer years of research experience who demonstrate strong, directly relevant research capabilities and potential for success in the role are encouraged to apply.
• Experience and success with developing research abstracts and peer reviewed manuscripts for publication.
• Pharma/biotech industry experience
• Proficiency with data analysis and use of statistical software (e.g., R, STATA, SAS)
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to understand and interpret quantitative data, synthesize scientific literature, and critically review research study protocols
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear and concise language for diverse audiences in varying formats.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a cross-functional environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

The salary range for this position is: $195,670.00 - $253,220.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
